It is very interesting seeing all the hatred that comes from women who keep repeating : "the bible says so...". Ok.
Do you understand that the bible gives men absolute power over women?Do you understand that the bible makes women inferior?

From your book:

"Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing. But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go." (Judges 19:24-25)

To the ones who kept repeating "the bible says so" I hope you are being very obedient to your husband and not using condoms cause that would make you a hypocrite wouldn't it? Don't you worry about that: you already are inferior! I pity your ignorance.
To all the other amazing girls:Thank You Ladies!!!

Jeasus. The Lawd. and the Bible. Is it just me or are some religious people a little bit blinded by their religion? It's getting to the point where they want to control what someone else can and can't do based on their own beliefs that this other person might not even share.

I think what people of religion do not realize is that there are really two facets to marriage. There is the religious side they choose to enter, and the government role in marriage.

I am an atheist. If I want to marry, I can go before a JP, have no mention of anything religious, and be legally married. It has nothing to do with any god what so ever.

Homosexuals are not asking churches to recognize their unions. They want the government to recognize their union. They want to benefits that "married" couples enjoy(taxes, benefits through work, adoption, community property, next of kin status, etc.).

But, no one wants to come out and tell the religious right to basically mind their own business in these matters. If you try to stifle what someone of religion is trying to express, they rant and rave about their rights being opressed. They scream religious persecution.

What people need to learn to do is basically mind their own business. It is really simple if you think about it. Seriously, if my neighbor is single, wants to come home every night, take off his clothes, roll around in green jello while wearing a sombrero, flippers, while watching Barney tapes. Who cares. I may not want to see it, but I don't care if that is what he is into. As long as he isn't hurting anyone else, more power to him.

But, most people in this world don't know how to mind their own business, therefore there will always be problems.

It doesn't matter what I think, it matters what God says on gay unions. The Bible is very clear, since God ordained marriage in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve, read Eve, not Steve.

Edit: We are not inferior to men, but we are to be submissive to our husbands. If you read the Bible you'd understand that. Then again, if you really read the Bible, you wouldn't ask why gays should not get married. Get your heart right w/God and then you will understand why God didn't make people gay, they choose that way, its a cop out to blame God.

Good question.
A good follow-up question would be:

How is it that the thought of gay people marrying degrades the institution of marriage? Is there a bill being introduced somewhere that will force heterosexuals to divorce each time two gay people marry? Is it simply that the thought of two women kissing or two men cutting a wedding cake is 'icky' to you? Well the answer to that is easy: don't think about it!

I mean, really. All these high-moralistic people strutting around trumpeting how awful gay people and gay sex and gay marriage is: don't you think it's kinda weird that they THINK about gay people so much? If they are so horrified by the thought of two men having sex, then why do they think about it so much?

I find the thought of eating a boiled squirrel really disgusting. But does that mean that people who eat boiled squirrels are degrading my dinner? Should I pass a law to prohibit people from eating boiled squirrels in order to protect the integrity of my meals?

Or, would it simply be easier for me to just not think about a boiled squirrel when I sit down to a tuna noodle casserole?

They think they know what's best for everyone. I suggest trying to ignore people like that, just make sure they stay out of office.

I think your complaint seems more like "...the right to decide they can't marry?" the right to marriage is a universal human right. Everybody already has it. Some people are just trying to ignore it.

Well, people think that they have the right to decide if gays can marry or not because they think that what ever they are that is the only correct thing to be. These are people who want to be in control of others and go by what the standards that society sets.

For the same reason they decide if you should wear a seat belt. Or if you should go to school, or if you should pay for things you use. THEY make laws and YOU obey. Or you can protest, to the right people, not on Yahoo Q&A and maybe get something done to change it.

I asked my Christian friend the SAME thing today. She said that she's just against it, she thinks it's unnatural. But animals do it all the time. And who is she to decide that it's unnatural? They're only people, if they want to love someone of the same sex, then let them. Nobody is stopping us from marrying the opposite sex, why should we stop them from marrying whoever they want to? Stop taking people's happiness away.

Edit: whoever's answer had the word "bible" in it are wrong. There is no evidence whatsoever that the stories in the Bible are true, none, zero.

usually they think its their religion that gives them the authority.

no joke.

i live an hour south of san francisco, i work there at least once a week. every single time theres a protest theres always someone out there with scripture on thiese big pieces of cardboard or whatever.

every single time.

obviously its religion that feuling this anger towards gay people .and these people are hiding behind it and pointing at people, saying "you cant do this" and "you cant do that...because MY BIBLE SAYS SO!"

and that "because my bible say so" is a direct quote from a lady i saw who was protesting outside of some building. couldnt hear her because of a guy on a megaphone but i could read her lips.
