I moved out. I turned 18 a few months before I graduated high school, and I moved out as soon as I started college. Some parents make their kids pay rent, or partial rent, or help with the bills.

What we did is 1. If you were not going to college, rent was due at the first of the month $300 plus 100 for utilities and 100 for food. 2. If you decide to move out the door revolves only once. Our kids went to college then moved out. Only one came back to the nest and is leaving 1 march, so that leaves 3 to come back once. So to remedy that we are moving into a two bedroom condo on the beach did I mention a gated community!

My kids had to have a job and or be going to school. My daughter worked but her and a friend got their own place. My son is 22 and moved back for awhile he works full time and if I need money I just ask him. I don't charge him rent as he is trying to buy a house. I would never kick my kid out unless they were doing nothing and not trying.

They let me finish high school. Then they said I had several house rules to abide by. If I didn't adhere to their rules, then I was out. The rules were:
Pay Rent, Keep an Active Student status (attend college for which I was responsible for my tuition), Be in by curfew (Midnight), Pay my own bills (car payment.)
Needless to say, I ran straight into the arms of my boy-friend who promised to marry me and get me out of that hell hole. Which ultimately had me jumping into a different hell hole.
Seven years later I was a divorced single mother. But at least I wasn't under mom & dad's crazy azz thumbs.

I'd already been working for 3 years, so nothing really changed. My parents were cool enough to let me live there rent free until I moved out at 20.

They let me stay in the house. I was the baby of the family, I lived there until I was 21, then got married and moved out.
