She'll start barking at us for no reason and nothing will shut her up? Any answers for why she does this and how to stop it would be awesome.

I've been waiting for somebody to ask this. Me and my pup just graduated from obediance school. There was a dog there that would not stop barking and the owner was getting annoyed so the teacher took a breath spray bottle (i think spearamint flavor) and she said everytime the dog barked sprayed it in the face with it. The dog of ocurse laid down and tried to wipe it off but she said the smell only burns there nose and there are no long term affects from it (except that it wont bark) it did it again... so it got a spray. The dog barked a couple more times and got some more sprays and guess what... it didn't bark any more. it sounds mean but i saw this technique work in a matter of 5 min. if even that long. And it was so amazing becasue of how good it worked. The spray is just that breath spray that u can get at a regular grocery store or any other store. But dont get the doggy breath spray becasue it proably wont work. It seriously does work. And works fast!!
Hope this helps!

Wow, that's a tough one, if you're dog is barking at her own masters. I mean, there are so many other things in the world for her to bark at. I think she's trying to tell you something.

Maybe more exercise would do her good. A lot more. Find a place for her to run and try throwing tennis balls (my Labrador knew what tennis balls were before she left the womb, but not all dogs are retrievers). Take her for long walks. Wear her out.

Now I know this will sound crazy, but some dogs are very sensitive, sensitive to things that we can't sense. Like energy. She may sense something in the home, or with you guys that makes her feel like vocalizing. There may be something else in the house she is sensitive to. Hard to say. My friend had a Labby that stared and barked at the entrance to the attic in his home, no doubt sensing something we could not.

Still, even if this is the case, wearing out the dog every day will help her relax and take it easy. If it is a young and very active dog, long walks or jogs are in order. Everyday.

Good luck with your woofer!

A good way to stop it is..............

When your dog barks or bites, you just have to put your hand over his muzzle, and say No sharply. Your hand is just like you biting him which is what the alpha pair (if he was in an actual pack.) would do. If he yelps or crys, he is just startled because he never new that you would "bite" back. Dont worry, this technique will not hurt the dog emotionally or physically. I watched it on the Dog Whisperer with Ceaser Milian. Then I checked with my vet and he said that that was the best technique next to just saying No and you dog not obeying.

Have fun with your dog! I heard that they live a long time and make GREAT pets! Good Luck!!!!!! :)

ALSO NEVER USE A SHOCK COLLAR ON A PUPPY OR AND ANIMAL. ANY ONE WHO USES THEN (TO ME) ARE CRUEL AND DONT DESERVE ANIMALS! THIS ISNT DIRECTED AT YOU........ BUT HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT IF SOMEONE SHOCKED YOU IN THE NECK AREA.

I said this answer to like 10 other questions, and I got chosen as best answer for like 8 out of 10 by asker.

I agree that the shock bark collar is inhumane. A friend owns adoggie daycare and she finds the gentle spray collars more effective that the noise. The exception is a lab or similar dog that loves the water.
As for barking for no reason, there is always a reason. It just isn't obvious to to. Talk to a local trainer in your area. Most give free phone consults.

She's just high strung. And bored. She sounds like an active dog...so why not give her more exercise? Add another walk to your day, play fetch in the backyard, go biking with her...if she's too tired to find you, she won't bark at you! If this doesn't work, spray her in the face with either citronella (if it's really serious) or water so she learns that instead of getting attention (being yelled at, stared at, calmed down, or hit) she just gets soggy.

Dog is either wanting to play or go out. Try getting a piece of rope, and playing tug a war, or tossing a ball until you tire it out. A slap on the butt or nose with a rolled up news paper works good if all else fails. You must be the alpha dog or it will think he is boss.

get a squirt bottle, a water gun, or an empty coke can with some pennies. everytime she barks, squirt her in the face. or shake the can. say no sharply. this should prevent her from barking.

we use to use a small super soaker. every time my dog heard us pumping the gun he'd stop doing what he was doing and sit still. he knew from the sound he ws in trouble.

My sister had this problem with her Dobie. He is deaf, so it was challenging trying to get him to stop. She picked up a squirt bottle and began to spritz him when he began barking. He hated it. Within a week, he'd see the bottle and stop without getting spritzed. Now every once in a while, she'll have to show him the bottle, but it is minimal.
