Why i ask is because i have seven and the ones that play together during the day sleep side by side at night,is this done on purpose or is just where they happen to be when they fall asleep

They are sociable and enjoy each others company during the day and a night - sleeping together gives them a sense of security, belonging and extra body warmth.

my sons budgie sleeps next to my other sons cockatiel they even used to fly into one anothers cages to be with each other so we gave in and just got them one big cage for the nights as they fly free in the boys bedroomall day

I only have two, and they always sleep right beside each other! Yes it is on purpose.

They are social so if they are kept in a group they will huddle together.

That's why my cockatiel falls asleep with his head tucked against my ear sometimes lol.

This is completely normal..birds feel safe when around others...so this is one reason why this do this..the other is that, by sleeping beside eatchother, they will keep eatchother warm and birds like to be warm.

i have owned many parakeets, and all of them slept together, they are very affectionate birds, they like to be all kissy faced too. if you were stuck in a cage with someone else you would either hate them or love them. they do the same.
