I recently filed my tax returns and received my refund checks. Then, about a week later I received another W-2 from a job I forgot I worked for about the first week of 2006. My gross pay was only about $170. I have been told that I have to file an ammended return? Can I cash the refund checks before I do that? Do I have to send them back?

Cash the check, Do not sent it back. I would make sure you have some money saved aside just in case you might owe the IRS some money.

You can cash the refund checks, but before you spend it, figure out what you owe on the amended return including the new W-2, since you'll likely have to pay back some of the refund. If you owe additional tax because of this additional W-2, send a check with your amended return.

Yes you can go ahead and cash your checks. Just get your amended filed and post dated by 4/17/2007, and keep enough of your refund to go ahead and send in what you may owe, you may actually be due a greater refund....That is a 1040X by the way.

good luck & bless

File the amended return and wait for the bill. It won't be much.

YOU do have to file it though; you don't have to return the checks

Cash it. When you amend it, more than likely you'll get more back since income was reported on W-2
