if you go on bluelinecareers.com it tells you on there
you need a certain grip, running distance etc
you need a certain level of sight without glasses / contacts
you can only apply when they're recruiting - the area you live in may not be recruiting for up to 18 months so you could be in for a wait

My ex joined he police force in 1995, he was reasonably fit but didn't really do anything except play football once a week - when he got accepted he had to go to their training HQ and stay there for approx 16 weeks coming home weekends. Once the application goes in you will be called for a series of tests, physical, mental, medical and interviews. I can't remember exactly but I think it was about 2 months in all before he started his training - if you do go ahead please keep your feet firmly on the ground there is nothing worse than a decent guy becoming a copper and then turning into an arrogant person

The answer depends on the Police Force that you apply for and when you apply as it often depends on the cuurent required staff levels.
When I applied, the fitness test was harder than it is now but the levels were decreased as people were finding it harder to get in as a result. Now they are finding that people who are in are unfit! (You live and learn!). In honesty, someone who is marginally fit could pass it now in my force. However, if you want to be an effective Officer who can provide the necessary backup to your colleagues when necessary then I would suggest you at least have an above average level of fitness. I know that I can run after someone when necessary and respond to calls from colleagues (on foot) in a reasonable length of time when needed.

I would suggest speaking to the recrutiment section for the force you are joining for more appropriate information.

As for the negative answers to this question, ignore them. As a Police officer you have to get used to that fact that you can never do right for doing wrong and some of the public you serve will always be negative towards you. (Usually the ones who you are helping to convict!)

Different agencies have difference standards. You should look at each agency's website or call the department directly to find out.

The process includes a written test first, followed by an oral board or practical, then are the physical agility tests (sometimes before the oral board, sometimes not until you enter the academy). Don't forget psychological tests, drug tests, physicals, and polygraphs.

I hear they make you eat 5 chocolate long johns and drink 3 cups of coffee before making you run 1.5 miles in under 12 minutes, bench your own body weight, and crank out at least 45 sit-ups in a minute. For more information, follow the link below and select the appropriate forum.

F/A/O JAMES M

I guess you dont like public services then. Who would you call if you were burgled,or you were injured in an accident?? eh

Why don't you keep your "lame" opinions to yourself and think yourself lucky that you have, aswell as other people, these individuals who risk life and limb to protect life and property.

If they knew who you were i bet they wouldnt come running at your hour of need.

I know i wouldnt you low life

You probably have to be fit enough to arrest a pensioner, able to spell GATSO, and pass out as soon as you are arrogant enough to turn the public against you.

If you can, try not to pass out until after the application is complete...
