is a religious war?
Notwithstanding, all people have beliefs about something, how could it not to some extent... but consider: How many people have been converted?
People's faith is not threatened.
It is the evil doers, and the innocent they hide behind, who are the victims, as well as the ones fighting them.
Wouldn't assuming that a war could be fought and won for religious reasons be a logical and practical absurdity anyways?

It's not a religious war in the sense that you use the term. It is a war that uses religious hatred to gain popular support.

God. I'm not even sure what you're asking exactly.

When you say "Wouldn't assuming that a war could be fought and won for religious reasons be a logical and practical absurdity anyways?" - well, no, it wouldn't. Time for History 101 apparently. Most of the wars in history have been fought for religious reasons. Sure, at bottom it's about the struggle for resources; but why do we deserve these resources more than the "bad guys"? Because we have a direct line to God and they don't. That is the characteristic reasoning.

On a "practical" level, are soldiers generally willing to die for (e.g.) oil? No. Are they willing to die for "God and Country"? Amen!

I think because the media played up the whole Jihad thing when we first started over there.... and then Bush, and his big mouth, said on TV that God wanted him to go into Iraq. These 2 things alone would make anyone view this as a Religious War, if from no other point than from the leaders who keep opening their mouths and sticking their feet in.

For the Bush Crime Family, the religious aspect is a pleasant off-shoot from the main reason: War Profiteering. Not only can he paint all muslims as terrorists, he has also amplified sectarian violence between muslims. While the muslims may feel we are "infidels" the war is not a Holy War because niether side is fighting to convert the other, religion is none-the-less a big part of dividing people into sides.

Jesus freaks like Bush love things black and white (us/them, with us/against us, right/wrong, good/evil, etc etc) so by emphasizing the non-xtianity of the middle east, it serves as a tool to placate the majority xtian people, and his supposed base, of the US.

It is a religious war. Nothing you say will change the fact the two differing sects of Islam are killing each other over religious beleifs. And, calling it EVIL is a tactic by Christians to provide an excuse for us to get into the middle of the war. It is not a war on evil, it is not a war on terrorism. It is a war on religion. And, if it were a war on terror, they Bush would be the first person who should be a victim off that war - after all, he terrorizes America with lies of WMDs in Iraq and color coded terror alerts that havent seen the light of day since he was reelected.

The war that was sold to the American public and Congress was a pack of lies. We have been lied to again and again and again and again by our Chimp in Charge and his greedy administration.

Whatever reason we were given for going into Iraq, it has become a mistake of colossal proportions. We have done a huge disservice to the Iraqi people. What was a tense region before we invaded is now officially a huge civil war fought among three sects. It's as if we went up to a huge wasp's nest with a baseball bat and beat the hell out of it.

When I hear that tens of billions of dollars have gone completely unaccounted for in this wrong-headed, bumbling attempt at 'establishing democracy' it makes my blood boil.

Who is watching the store???

You might want to let the suicide bmbers that claim to be Islamic to think about that. Most of the people I talk to think that 'W' is trying to take Iraq b/c his dad couldn't, or b/c someone threatened his dad; or it's b/c 'W' wants control of the oil over there-business reasons.
I don't know if most AQmericans think of this as a religious war.

It is religious for some insurgents in Iraq but not all. As a footnote, people from George Bush to Osama Bin Laden, have claimed that God is on their side.

The war between al-Qaida and the US is not religious, but the War between the sunni and Shia is, they are two relgious groups so therefore its a religious war.
