First, cutting is serious, but it is NOT correlated with suicide. Most people are cutting to stop pain, not because they want to die.

Also, they will not put you in the hospital just because you are cutting.

In most instances, mental health professionals will work with you to figure out why you cut and then help you stop. It takes along time. Most mental health professionals dealing with cutting are very kind and understanding. You do not need to be afraid of them, they are there to help you.

All therapists that are helping someone who is a cutter will develop a plan to keep that person safe. So for example, you plan might be that when you cut, you clean your wounds and if they need stitches you goto X doctor.

Don't be afraid to get help. There are really some good therapists who can help you with this problem.

Don't let these comments scare you into not getting help. Cutting is a medical/physiological problem. It is treat somewhat as a drug addiction(with the drug addiction being worse). Cutting is usually the sign of some very horrible mental pain suffered by the person - they cut themselves to relieve the mental pain. The best thing to do is get some physiological help - mental therapy does wonders for people with this disease. Good luck - Life is worth it!!

It is considered significant. The key is what the acting out and attention seeking behavior is all about. Self-mutilation is a sign of low-self image and esteem. There may be an anger towards something experienced or with a personal event.

Cutting is very very serious. It is a institutionalization offense. It is always closely linked with depression and other serious mental health issues. I would look deep inside oneself to find out truly what is going on, and try to stop the cutting as soon as possible.

It ain't serious, i cut myself, there's no risk unless ur tryin' 2 kill urself. cutting is a way to get rid of emotional stress. once pain or blood is drawn, the satisfaction is acheived, if ppl would realize it is'nt bad this would b a better place. don't let ne1 kno if u do it tho, ppl go phsyco. try taking a knife and breaking the blade out the razor, it's the best way. trust me.

cutting is a way for a person to get relief for what ever hard feeling they are experiencing. If not treated by a professional and the feelings surrounding it talked out then it could potentially exclate to be more serious. If you know someone that is cutting then I urge you to talk to them and encourage them to get the help that they need to deal with whatever it is in their lives that is giving them greif or refer them to http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NoFEAR-SAFE_Approved/
so that they can talk out their feelings. Everyone needs someone to talk to.

it is serious because it is a symptom of depression, so you must be vey upset to be doing it, and so they will probably refer you to a counsellor who will hopefully help you feel better about yourself. They're trained professionals, so they won't freak out or take things too lightly.

EXTREMLY SERIOUS! its not worth it. i stopped because the consequences were ruining my life even more than it was. and i learned that it is completly pointless after awhile because if you dont get attention, it gets boring...i'm not saying you are doing it for attention but i saw that i was in hindsight. i'm guessing you are prolly in 8th grade or a freshman right? yea it gets a little better. just wait

REALLY SERIOUS! it shows signs of depression which could lead to many other worse things. I used to think about it, but then I realized it's not worth hurting myself. if you (or whoever) are doing this, STOP! Take your feelings out on something else (like sports, or drawing or something) good luck!
