Dot 3 Brake Fluid is what is required for the 2005 Corolla.

However if you are low on brake fluid, have your brakes checked. It's possible that your front brake pads are worn and need to be replaced.

On my wife's 2003 Corolla (same body as the 2005) I know when it's about time for a brake job when her brake fluid gets close to the low mark.

Brake fluid should be changed about every 2-3 years, but most people never get it changed out until something breaks.

Check with your owner's manual for the correct type of brake fluid. You should never mix different types of brake fluid and you shouldn't add brake fluid from an older opened container. This is because brake fluid is hygroscopic and absorbs moisture from the air once opened.

There is no real difference between brands - so just choose whatever brand you like.

Your brakes should be inspected at least once a year for wear. It's a simple and free inspection that any Midas shop can do for you. The mileage you get on your brakes will vary widely depending on how and where you drive. If it's all city, they can wear out pretty quickly, but if it's mostly freeway, your brakes could last for 60,000 miles or more.

If you're low on fluid, that's a pretty good indication that your pads are wearing out.

It doesn't matter what brand, just make sure it's from a new container(sealed container) brake fluid draws moisture from the air, reducing it's effectiveness. As far as the brake pads, have them checked by a dealer or qualified mechanic, they all wear differently with driving habits. If you notice the vehicle pulling to one side while braking or you hear a grindind noise (more that a squeal) then have them checked out asap.
