why do so many people on here bring down others ...
why do Muslims do this ?
why do Christians do that ?
why do atheists ?
why do pagans ?
blacks , whites ?

dont you realise that in pointing out the negative in others , only leads to people pointing out your own ?
that when someone attacks one group .... it brings many people down on yours ?
when will you learn that in order to make your own group look better and more possitive , you have to show that in a possitive light ?

I quote myself on this one --

"You can call me fat, but it doesn't make you skinny. You can call me ugly, but it won't make you pretty. You can call me dumb, but it certainly won't make you smart. You can call me silly, but it won't make you serious. You can call me immature, but it won't mean you are mature. You can call me wrong all you wish, but it will not make you right."

It is insecurity that makes someone else put down another person. That is my belief.

You are absolutely right Pangel. Unfortunately some people don't understand that. They are so busy with their own agendas that they don't take the time out to get to know anything about anybody else who is different from them. Some people also tend to make assumptions about things that they have no idea about. If people were to actually take the time out to get to know eachother and learn about different religions and things in general there would be a lot less misconceptions and the world would be a little more peaceful.

Despite the amount of religion (mostly Christian) bashing I do, I try to never atack an individual. In fact most Christians seem to be good hearted people, who I believe are a positive part of humanity. Their religion, however, I see as a false sense of hope that is holding humanity back, and this is why I attack it.

I'm not perfect, and I'm sure I've pointed out a moron or two on here, but the things I've been called....don't get me started. I orignally hoped to have some good talks on religion here, but ran into too many people who were so set in their beliefs that they can't admit there's a chance they might be wrong. This led to conversations with brick walls. "Why?" "Because"

But I agree with you.

There is at least on philosopher who contends that most crucial moral issues are never really "resolved" the way we would like them to be. It seems that the generations that hold to doomed positions, e.g., slavery, simply die away. In other words, no side wins by argumentation - whether you're nice or nasty.

In this way, ethical issues do not resemble science - in which issues tend to be won or lost via argumentation in favor of the superior explanatory powers of a theory.

The point is that respecting others does NOT mean respecting their ideology. To paraphrase my Christian friends: "love the ideologue, demolish the ideology." It isn't so much that you'll have an effect on those ruled by irrational concepts. It's that you'll help to create an environment of questioning. THAT is the enemy of dogma.

I agree to some extent. Although If people don't object to things they feel are strongly wrong and dangerous then society would be like a body without a skeleton. Positive can sometimes be a negative aspect of a deeper subject.

I will always object to something I feel and sense is deeply wrong.

One of my customers the other week happened to mention that one of his legs was shorter than the other. I had to stop myself from saying "No, you should say one leg is longer than the other! Be positive about it!"

Know what I mean, Pangel? There are limits to how far you can go with that touchy-feely approach, and cases where it is definitely unproductive. If you saw a gang of religionistas dragging a witch to be burnt at the stake, would you not intervene, violently if necessary?

This is a brilliant question and the exactly the type of question that makes this worthwhile, I will do my best to answer it with what I understand

firstly the problem you highlight is one of groups and their constant fight to prove they are right, this I believe stems from the fact that for someone to belong to a group takes a conscious decision on the part of an individual to adhere to a set of values this, this by its nature sets them off against each other from the start, this I feel fosters division because if one side is right that must mean the other is wrong

I was brought up a Catholic and can remember from being young that division was indoctrinated, as I got older I lost interest as I thought most of the people I saw who claimed to believe in God were hypocrites, and have since developed a sceptical view of organised groups

One thing that sticks in my mind though is a question I asked a Christian a few years back regarding proof of the existence of God, it was explained to me that the bible, amongst other things, is a record of prophesy and then fulfilment of that prophesy therefore proving the existence of God i.e. who could possibly predict the future and guarantee it came true other than God

This brings me to my final point of Jesus being the cause of divide

Luke 12:47 (I think)

Not Peace but Division

"I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is completed! Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."

Today’s world could be taken as the fulfilment of a prophesy base on these words, the challenge (I believe) is for mankind, as a collective conscious, to learn to love one another regardless of division, and if you are capable of this it proves you truly do love your neighbour

I wondered when I saw that last post if you were going to say something :)
I think what happens in a lot of cases is people become outraged at some of the idiocy that's posted, and feel the need to lash out in retaliation.
Perhaps we could all take a lesson from this and just step away from the keyboard and go take a nice walk or something when that happens, instead of lashing back.
Hugs,

I try not to attack any one group in general. I will attack people because they are being purposefully offensive, or try to point it out to them if they don't realize it. I have seen the good and bad in every group you've mentioned. None is inherently better or worse than any other. It is the hypocrites and bigots that bother me the most. I try to attack them, not anybody else.

I think it's basically cause and effect (what goes around comes around), I never ever attack Buddhists or Hindus, why???
Cause they mind their own business and if i ask them a question they tell me respectably what their beliefs are without trying to convert me to join their organisation. Religion is just organised beliefs. If any Buddhist or Hindu tries to suppress my individualism i will attack them too.
