Nuclear power plants use the heat from reaction to produce steam and drive turbines to produce energy. The primary water is isolated within radiation chamber, secondary water is used to drive turbine.Think of a pot of water inside another pot of water. No contaminated water or radioactive material ever leaves the chamber,no hydrocarbons are burned,no greenhouse gasses, only steam.Granted, the radioactive fuel rods will remain radioactive for 40,000yrs or so,but at the rate we burn fossil fuels,we need a viable alternative in the next 200yrs or so.
