I would never say an atheist is self absorbed. that is just as wrong as them bashing Christians. I do have one comment though......this area, the religion and spirituality is SOOOO dominated by "atheists" I find it pretty ironic. Why would they even be on here? Which supports what many already know...there are NO atheists. They fear the unknown. they are looking for answers, so where do they go? the religion board to get reassurance w/ other atheists who are trying to seek answers as well! This is so funny. To all the atheists, why do you do the research before you write off God?? there are books out there. Many were conducted by atheists trying to PROVE there was no God, only for them to realize there IS! If we always existed, trace back population....you will see we were less and less and less, until there were only a few hundred humans....well, explain where we started? The history chanel even had a documentary on Noah's Arc, and there was proof the world did flood. Why don't you be as open minded as you want us to be and do your own research? Or are you afraid you will actually become what you have feared right along...a believer?

I accept as true with the 1st 0.5 , i could replace it to fb and Myspace has printed in simple terms how self absorbed and interest searching for society IS, not grow to be, it quite is frequently been that way :P

I prefer to live for the benefit of others, actually. Makes my life quite meaningful, even if it still has no purpose.

I wouldn't spend the time and money on doing Search and Rescue if I wasn't interested in the benefit of others.

I am just one man. I prefer to live like I am all humanity all the same; living for the sake of all instead of the one is a glorious feeling.

Wow! What a troll! Why do you make the assumption that atheists are purposeless and self-absorbed? My purpose in life is to love my family, help others when I can and have a really good time while I'm alive. I volunteer for two different charities; make donations to scores of others and have sent packages with goodies to soldiers in Iraq. What have you done to show how purposeful and non self-absorbed you are?

Man, you Christians are so bloody arrogant- You think you have all the answers, when in fact you know nothing at all...
You fear life, you fear living.
A person should be true to ones self and take responsibility for their own successes and failures. Dont blame everything in life on gods or devils.
Worshiping a fictional old man in the sky does nothing to increase ones sense of purpose- Most Christians are filled with a sense of self hatred- Avoid deity worship, and you'll be less likely to hate others or yourself..Sieze youre life and make it your own.
Dont waste time fearing hellfire if you dont blindly worship a fictional charcter....

How many atheists have killed thousands or even millions of people in order to promote their beliefs?

Purposeless and self absorbed? There are lots of christians who fall into that category. Therefore it is not a choice of religion that dictates it.

Who said an Atheist is purposeless and self absorbed? Christians perhaps? Well, thats wrong. Its an opinion born from Christian closed mindedness, not fact. But then, thats the case for many things.

sure!

watch your family get ripped apart and your own father slowly die. observe injustices that happen to people who don't deserve it. and go to church every once in a while, only to realize that the religious set only makes you feel dirty and worthless, even though "we are all God's children and equal in His eyes."

what a sweeping generalization, thanks for that. i am totally self-absorbed and purposeless, and every athiest i've ever met is the same. the athiest who gave free art classes to underpriveleged children is a total waste of breath. same goes for the agnostic teacher who opened my eyes to music and helped me discover my passion for piano. we're sorry for invading your holy land. we'll all burn in hell now.

It's my little secret, but I will say that I am much less self absorbed and hateful since leaving the church. And my life has much more purpose now that I'm not spending all my time praying to an imaginary god and worrying whether I'm doing enough genuflecting to get to heaven.
How about you?

Atheists don't have a corner on the self-absorbtion market. Just look around. Actually, most atheists I know are some of the most generous people around.
