An abscess is an inflamation in your mouth which show up as a lump and contains pus. What happens is when a tooth is infected or your gum is infected it becomes inflamed with pus the pus has no where to drain out so it stores up in the gum and cause a lump or swelling in the mouth. Pain or discomfort are usually the symptoms. the dentist will prescribe antibiotics to help get rid of the abcess but u will need to complete the necessary treatment or it will come back.

An abscess is an infection. The signs vary in the mouth from swelling to bleeding to sore gums and foul breath. If you think you have an abscess, get to a dentist ASAP because the infection from the mouth can go into the heart and cause major damage and if it travels into the blood stream to the brain you could die.

No way....they don't pull your tooth out for an abcess...only if it's really bad and they can't save the tooth. It appears a swelling in your mouth that contains pus. That pus must be drained...otherwise it's painful....and can affect other organs.
I absolutely recommend a visit to the doctor.!!!
