With all the terrible things going on in this world, and calamity, I would be exstatic someone is thinking and praying for me.

I pray for you and for all here.

I don't get angry, that's very kind of them. I do wonder how effective those mass prayer things could be. I've always prayed for the big things. Like world peace, etc. It's the prayers close to home that were always answered. I think it is best to pray for specific individuals, really focus on one person at a time.

How about I pray that you see the falseness of your religion and join mine? Nothing wrong with that. I'll just be asking God to let you see the real truth so you can stop believing that Jesus is God. That's OK right? Does that put the fear of the real God into you?

Doesn't make me angry, a chuckle and then saying 'Ok you do that.' is about enough response.

Now, when somebody says they want to "pray" for me and want to hold my hands or do something else to make me a direct part of their little ceremony, I get a little angry. You would too if a person from a different religion wanted you to stop what they were doing and engage in their ceremony.

Because in saying it, you are being condescending, as though you were implying,"you have a problem, my friend, but I, with my superior faith, will talk to my God to help you with your problem.

I know YOU don't see it that way, but that's the way many people interpret the phrase.

Let me ask this. Is it absolutely NECESSARY that you announce to the person in question that you intend to pray for them? Do you have to tell them?

If you have the desire to pray for them, then do so, by all means.

Your "announcing" your intention to them serves no useful function.

You see, my friend, people are weird creatures. They want to be independent, and they want to know that they can live without God. Most non-Christians have this point of view, and when you want to pray for them, they immediately have this mentality of, "I can help myself! I don't need God's help!" And that causes them to become angry.

Some Christians also have this problem. This can be caused by several things. Maybe they feel that you are actually telling them that they can't pray for themselves. Maybe the thing you want to pray for is a very sensitive thing for them. Maybe they have the same mentality as above!

Personally, I love it when someone wants to pray for me, and I also like praying for others in need.

Hope that helped...

If it was someone I know, and I was, for example, ill, I would touched, even though I am an atheist; Christians I know well would never actually say that to me.

When it is a smug, self-righteous git on here, it just depresses me thinking how smug and self-righteous they are, and I wonder who they are trying to impress.

Do you offer to pray for people in order to scare them? That does not seem a very Christian attitude.

Do you want me to remember you in my Loving-Kindness meditation?

I'm a Christian, and sometimes it angers me because it's not something that I asked for. It also assumes that I cannot pray for myself. I'm perfectly capable of doing so. When people see me and say, "I'll pray for you." It's not in an act of love, it is an act of judgment. It's someone that believes I am wrong and wants to use the power of prayer to change who I am. That is wrong.

I do not believe God is a genie in a magic bottle that we can use to change other people to agree with us. It isn't the act of praying, it is the attitude that bothers me.

I don't get angry, I just roll my eyes. I only get angry if someone tries to take away an accomplishment of mine by saying it happened because they prayed for it.
