I was prescribed both amantadine and zithromax for a bad fever/chest cough. I'm done with the zithromax (antibiotic) and know never to stop antibiotics prematurely. Is this true for an antiviral medicine too? If I'm feeling a lot better can I discontinue taking the amantadine, or do I need to take it to completion?

talk to your MD about it. but you should complete your prescription. if you stop prematurely, there is a chance that you create a resistant and it will be harder to treat.

To help keep yourself from getting the flu, keep taking this medicine for the full time of treatment. Or if you already have the flu, continue taking this medicine for the full time of treatment even if you begin to feel better after a few days. This will help to clear up your infection completely. If you stop taking this medicine too soon, your symptoms may return. This medicine should be taken for at least 2 days after all your flu symptoms have disappeared.

I would recommend following your doctors advice and take the medicine to completion. After all your MD deals with this daily and knows what the recommended dosage and length of time required to recover is better than anyone.

Take it to completion. Viruses can become resistant, too.
