I've got news for you. Just because the parents of your dog are AKC Champions does NOT mean he or she is good for breeding. I had a German Shepard puppy I bought from a breeder that had all the titles and ribbons and guess what? My puppy had hip dysplasia in both legs before he was even one year old. You don't have to "Show" your dog and win titles to prove your a responsible breeder. Also, a lot of people cannot afford a so called "show quality dog" so should they not have the to opportunity to own a beautiful and healthy Rottweiler puppy? Take your dog to the Vet and have the proper health testing done. If he or she is healthy and has a good temperament, has the body form and good head that we all love in our Rotti's, then you go for it! As for age, 10 months is not only fine, AKC approves it at 6 months for males but females should not be breed until their second heat. And don't beat yourself up about it, accidents do happen and now you know how important it is to secure a male dog when a ***** is in heat. If you want your Rottweiler for protection I understand not neutering him but you have to keep him under control....Good luck to!

Do not breed her until she is fully mature.
I am a breeder my self and know from past experience that you never breed a dog until the age of 2 years this is full maturity for a dog as far as growing terms goes.
There could be serious risk's with the babies if she is bred too early.
If she is only a year old she is just a baby herself and still has a lot of puppy in her and a whole year to grow until she is an adult.
Please take my advice and please don't breed before 2 yrs.
And also if it is a purebred dog you will need to find out what health issues are common with the breed.

The best age to breed is between 2-5 years. And NO more then 3 litters. You should really wait for them to have 2-3 heat cycles before breeding to make sure everything is okay enough to breed. It is a safty precaution. Dogs typically go into their first heat at 6-8 months and every 6-8 months after that.
Don't breed after 5yrs of age because having pups isn't easy and age isn't one factor you want to have to worry about.

If you do not already know the answer to this question, you should NOT BE BREEDING YOUR DOG!

The last thing that the world needs is more backyard breeders. Sorry to sound negative, but it is very difficult to take proper care of puppies and it is not something that the average Joe Blow should be doing!

IMHO a dog, any dog, should never be bred until it has passed all it's health clearances. Since OFA will not certify a dogs hips until it is 24 months old, 2 years of age becomes the absolute minimum age.

If you have to ask, you have no business considering doing it.

Much reserach and thought and decision making should go into deciding on when and if to breed a dog. Without it, you are only contributing to the overpopulation of dogs.

After the age of 2, when all health checks (hips, eyes, elbows, thyroid, etc0 have been done, and after you have shown her and she has gained points, and after she has been proven to be an excellent representation of her breed, and her temperment tested. I'm sure you knew that part, though.

Never!

It is appropriate to get a dog spayed as young as possible. Shelters will do it as soon as the animals are weaned.
