A permanent is done when the hair stylist raps your hair in the size rollers to make the size curls you want, you can get tight small curls or loose ones just to get body in your hair. Then after wrapping it, they put a solution on your hair that make it very vulnerable to anything done after that. It totally relaxes your hair strand to the shape of the rod. After being timed, it is rinsed off, and if you took curlers out, you'd have perfectly straight hair, that is why they then put neutrolizer on, it keeps your hair in the shape of the curl you want. They stink a bit, but don't hurt and usually last 2-4 months, depends on each person and their hair. They make it easier to do your hair everyday with minimal care. I'm about to get one for summer so I don't have to curl my hair and dry it everyday. Hope this helps.

It's an oxymoron. Perm is short for permanent wave, and you get one from a hairstylist if you want your hair to be more wavy or really curly. The reason it's an oxymoron is because it isn't permanent -- as your hair grows, the perm goes away.

Depends......for europeans and caucasians its a process that makes the hair curly.....
for african-americans and those with "textured" hair.....its a process that straightens the hair.
