Very likely died during Jesus' teens or 20's. He is not mentioned after Jesus was 12 and went to Jerusalem. Jesus, the oldest son, charged John with caring for his mother. This would presume that she was widowed at the time.

It was common for men to be several years older than their adolescent wife in that culture...

Not much is mentioned about Joseph but that he was Jesus' adoptive father, he was a carpenter and taught Jesus those skills, and Jesus had at least two half sisters and I believe three half brothers, and Joseph was still around when Jesus stayed behind at the temple and they had to search for him, he and Mary taught Jesus well on the Scriptures, Joseph was a good father and provider. And Joseph was in the line of King David giving Jesus the legal right to kingship from a human standpoint.

Mary had no other children besides Jesus. Joseph may have been previously married and probably had children from that marriage. I grit my teeth when I read things like this : The experts say she had 7 children with Joseph. What a bunch of Bologna and people should be struck dumb for saying such nonsense. Joseph was most likely an older man and he died quite naturally before Jesus' public ministry started. I can see why this had to happen too. Can you imagine a man seeing this suffering and crucifixion happen to someone you loved, like Joseph must have loved Jesus? The Lord saved him from having to witness that.

The Lord told Joseph in a dream who Jesus would be. Can you imagine thinking that as soon as Jesus was born you were going to make it with Mary? No No No. He knew that she was special and that he shouldn't touch her just like it was in the Old Testament days with the Ark of the Covenant. Whoever touched it was killed. He also was perfectly aware of Scripture that told of Queen Esther being put into the care of the Kings Eunuchs. He knew what was expected of him and he obeyed. Today we are being told that you must have sex all the time. This is false. People were much more chaste in those days. They were able to control themselves.

There are no written or even oral teachings about what happened to Joseph. There is a vague reference in Matthew regarding when Jesus went back to Nazareth and was teaching in their synagogue that people were asking if he (Jesus) was not the son of Joseph and did not Mary and his (Jesus') brothers and sisters live in the town...
I would hazard to guess that Joseph and Mary led a very normal life until Joseph's death, probably of old age, at which time Mary might have gone to be with her eldest son, Jesus, which would be normal for those times.

According to non-scriptural sources from the times, Joseph died early in Jesus's life, and was effectively out of the picture before Jesus's coming of age.

There is no mention of Joseph past the story of Jesus' birth in the book of Matthew. Not a lot appears about Joseph in contemporary non-canonical writings, either.

There are some non-Canonical scriptures that say that Joseph died when Jesus was about 12. The Jewish historian Josephus does not make any reference to that but thanks to ancient manuscripts found in the 1950's and earlier, there is an interesting account as to the life of Jesus from age 12 to far beyond age 33.

When the birth certificate showed who the real father was (The Lord "Jehovah" God) Joseph took him to court. "Look, all you did was get her pregnant. I brought her safely to Bethlehem, kept all the animals and angels quiet, and then set Jesus up in my carpentry business. What did you do? We never heard a word from you, not even a Christmas card! If there is anyone who deserved a Christmas card it would be us! I mean, we are ON most Christmas cards! Sheesh!"

The judge (one of the judges named in Judges) granted Joseph weekend visitation rights, plus two weeks each summer.

Where Joseph and Jesus went during these summer vacations is still a matter of great conjecture. Many have theorized that they went to Nepal and studied with holy sages there. Others feel sure they went to Branson, Missouri.

Nothing more is mentioned about Joseph after Jesus was 12 so I dare say he died before Jesus started his Ministery

May God bless you

I would assume that he died before Christ's ministry. So it was sometime between the time he was twelve (when Joseph and Mary were looking for him and he was teaching in the temple) and the time he was about 33, when he started his ministry. There aren't any more details than that, though.
