they respond with, "you dont know the bible very well" or "you obviously dont read your bible" or "your taking it out of context" they constantly question your intelligence of the matter.

when the truth is, ive quoted and referenced verses in the bible and still had christians tell me those verses dont exist. ive seen christians thumbs up people who make up verses. and always thumbsdown verses that are in the bible that they dont agree with. (yes obviously some people here are to lazy to look in a bible to double-check these verses).

whos intelligence should really be questioned...?

I have even seen guys post questions with verses that sound good to Christians, but they don't exist and them get stars like crazy. It is fun to play sometimes.

The truth is one of the major problems is that Scripture is in fact ripped out of context.

Context is very important for interpeting Scripture due to the fact that we are both removed culturally and historically from the original writing.

However, I think those who say "you take it out of context" use that phrase out of context. LoL

I am a Christian and I have seen this phrase over used in Yahoo! Answers. Notice how many times they will say that but then do not go to explain the passage in context?

Also, I never make up Bible verses nor do I EVER deny that a verse exsists in the Bible.

here, you are referencing Christians into one big lump. Personally, if I have a problem with what someone is saying about the Bible (or sometimes just because) i look it up myself, and if i find that they are incorrect, then i woill point it out to them. the Bible is complete, written by a Holy God who (gee what a surprise!) was smart enought to guide the translators, and every verse in there is true and 100%fact. but i think it is very uppity for people to say that "you obviously don't know the bible very well." it can be very condescending. and prideful. not good =]

Why do people assume that when they ask a Christian a question, they are indeed talking to a Christian?

Additionally, the Bible was translated from texts that were designed to speak to people alive 2 thousand years ago. We make more mistakes about the intent of the author(s) than we realize.

When you read, say, James Joyce or Homer, you have to do a little research about the work in order to truly understand the intent of that author. The Bible is no different...

hahahaha I have gotten thumbs down from christians when I quoted scripture too. Very sad indeed.

Most atheists know the bible better than most Christians. The fact of the matter is the majority of the bible is quite boring and no one wants to read it without a purpose in mind. Athiests have a purpose: usually to prove why it is wrong or false. Christians simply don't care. They accept that it is all true even though they don't even know what is in it. It's a lot easier to let someone else do their thinking for them.

If you pick verses out of the OT and say, How do Christians justify this... it is a futile argument. Christ came in the NT to make it just what it is, history. The polite answers you get like you have, are correct, keeping this in mind.

Not all Christians are that way. But they surely differ in their understanding about one same Bible verse. Yet, their answers were honest in what the verse means to them according to their different doctrines.

All I know that Jesus preached one thing, but men created many doctrines.

you use the "Christians" as if every Christian would give you the same answer. As for Bible verses, they differ depending on the translation which can make for some interesting debate.I don't think you have spoken to many Christians who are willing to converse I would freely exchange ideas with you just email.

I don't know... maybe they don't look up the verses? It is easy to look them up at biblegateway.com ... you can check their meaning by crossreferencing in different versions as well... if you think they are misquoting or making up verses, they may have a diff bible than you.... some paraphrased ones are a little 'thin' on meaning

I'm Christian and I've never said that. I respect those that come up with questions that make us think and analyze the bible. I those who say those things are afraid of losing their faith. But if you believe in what you say, then you should be afraid of somebody asking questions.
