First one! You cannot use after "to" a verb ending in "ing".
Besides there is not such a thing like "more or less correct", because is either correct or incorrect, it cannot be both.
You might say "which is more appropriate?".

Erm the first one is more correct, but i would suggest using "I was happy to have heard from you." Hope that helps. =)

I was very happy to hear from you" is correct, the latter sentence should be " I was very happy hearing from you" if you want to use the gerund phrase you need to drop the preposition.

First of all, your subject is phrased wrong. Should be "Which is correct"
And to answer your question. It is:
1) "I was very happy to hear from you"
2) "I am very happy to be hearing from you"
Just remember, no -ing after "to"
