I got my toy poodle at about 8 weeks old. The breeder told me that my pup (currently 11 weeks old) had "puppy fur" right now and that his coat would get curlier when he gets older. Is this true? Right now his hair is wavy, but it isn't curly or poofy like the images I see of toy poodles in shows. Any poodle owners out there know about this?

At around 9 months of age, a puppy starts getting his adult coat which will be denser and more wiry. It can take until they're up to 18 months for their coat to change and during this time they mat up almost overnight. You really need to brush them thoroughly with a pin brush while they're changing coats between clippings or they'll be a huge mess. Once their done changing coats, they're easy to look after between clippings.

Yes, don't worry. All dogs shed their "puppy fur" and grow and adult coat. It is usually pretty itchy for them, so if he is itching some, don't worry about it. If it is excessive itching, then have him/her looked at, but otherwise, don't worry. Unfortunately, that soft, curly puppy hair falls out and the adult coat comes in.

All dogs coats change when they reach adult hood this is usually about 9 to 12 months of age. Your groomer will let you know when his adult coat comes in. Puppy fur is great but us groomer like the adult coats better.
