I wish I knew. You'd think that would be a bad thing. Sheep are mindless and stupid animals that are content to do nothing all day but stare straight ahead while chewing grass.

Honey...I'm not a sheep.

I am however...a Super Sheep...because I am with (Jesus).

Thank you, now I need some green pasture and stilled water (because I don't want to get the water on my nose.)

Do a study, when you do...you will find that German Shepard does not show up once in the Biblical text. You will also find if you like the lion better...

"The devil prowls around like a roaring lion seeking those, whom he may devour."

Check out KenDavis.com. He has a CD that addresses this issue that will give you much to ponder. It's called (you guessed it...) "Super Sheep."

wow, you've never read the Bible have you? We're referred to as sheep being used as an analogy(or w/e that word is) because God is our Shepherd. He leads us and we're to follow Him. It has nothing to do with a sheep's intelligence, if that were so you nonbelievers would be the sheep only you obviously have no shepherd. so that would mean you are on your own with the wolves, but God could protect those of us Christians from any 'wolves'.....

I think it's a figure of speech....and yes, people in general are easily influenced by any number of "leaders". I think in Christianity God/Jesus are referred to as the "Shepherd" because He won't lead us "sheep" into a den of wolves and He already knows most of us are "stupid".

Probably because Jesus himself coined the term (actually, I think David may have used it first) to describe his followers.

An your point about sheep being stupid is well taken, because most pastors point it out in their sermons. It kind of implies that God thinks that humans are stupid enough to follow one another off a cliff into Hell if we don't have a spiritual shepherd, like Jesus, to guide us.

One of the many names of Jesus is "lamb of God" also "lion of God".

Jesus was as innocent as a lamb, and as fierce as a lion. The lamb was considered the best sacrifice in the old testament, because it was pure and innocent, likewise Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice for us, because he is pure and innocent.

Jesus is also the shepherd, guiding us to the green pastures. He says that if one of us is lost, he will search high and low to find us, and will be more happy to see that one lost sheep than to know that all of the others are safe in their pen. Not that he doesn't care about the others, but he now knows they all are safe.

We are called to be sheep, because Jesus was a sheep. we are called to be pure and innocent, as Jesus was. Being like Jesus is our greatest calling, second only to loving others.

Jesus does not want us to be stupid, though, in fact, in Matthew 10:16 he said "I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves."

i just wanna be a sheep, baa baa!

You need to lay off the drugs and try living in the real world for awhile. If you truly want to know about God, then quit thinking you already know all you need to know and dismiss the possibility there is a God. Find a good Christian church (I would suggest Catholic Church ) and study what they believe. Then and only then could you make an informed decision about what true FAITH is all about. "The truth will set you free

Sheep are easily taken advantage of. That is the point of being a sort of born again Christian - turning the other cheek and letting the wolves tear them apart. I think everyone is aware of the analogy and it fits the point they are making.

He is asking about the implication that sheep are stupid. Not the fact that they have a shephard.

Because people are dumb also and tend to want to do our own thing.

But God knows what our end would be, so He sent us Jesus to be our Good Shepard, He will lead us in the paths that will take us to Heaven.

The metaphor is less about us behaving like shepp, but more about Christ being a shepherd. Sheep get lost-shepherds go find them. They very often shear and eat them, too. I've never personally liked the metaphor either, but don't assume that one simile makes us all idiots.

Because Christians are a flock of sheep and Jesus, their lord and savior, is the Shepherd who guides them.
