For about a year now I've had this problem and it seems to be worse in the last few months:
Before my belly got bloated really bad and had some constipation around my period.....seemed normal.
now all of the time I am constipated. my belly feels all blown up and I have gas a lot. it is so embarrasing because people say taht I am gaining weight (even though I did a little..) but it is only my belly that is "fat" I feel like the muscles are pushing out or I am bloated...maybe even my back seems curved like it is pushing my stomach out (I do have scoliosis). Anyway..I am tired of people asking if I'm pregnat (about 15 comments!!!). I see commercials on tv like relicore for stress related belly fat...or ibs......my belly sometimes looks like those poor poor kids you see on tv taht are malnourished. I've changed my diet. I include hardly no fast food....I eat more fiber, fruits, and milk. Though my constipation seems not as bad when I eat better.my belly is still "pregant looking"

I am not a doctor (I'm a nurse).
It sounds like you have either a fairly severe wheat intolerance or something like Crohn's disease, IBS or diverticular disease. They all could benefit from medical advice but I understand having no insurance makes it difficult. I will find websites for each so you can read up and hopefully find out what it is and how to help yourself.
I hope you find some help in the links.

Its sounds to me like you may have Irritable Bowel Syndrome in some degree.

Bowel troubles tend to be genetic as well.

I find that the biggest culprit is not drinking enough water.

There is a product that I use called Colon Cleanse. (you should be able to get it from any health food store.)

Start taking 2 everynight with plenty of water for about a week.
Trust me you will be going the following morning.

Then do 3-4 per night with plenty of water. Dont take the 4, 3 times a day the way they recommend, or you will be on the pot all day long.

Also take a Probiotic (this puts good bacteria back into your colon)

Finally, lay off simple carbs a sugar in your diet. That causes yeast growth that makes bloating worse. That include alcohol!
Milk is not all that great for you, and for all you know you may be lactose intollerant, which will make bloating bad too.

You may even have a food allergy that you arent aware of.

YOu need to drink Water, Water, water.

Finally the fact that your belly is that big may be a result of an obstruction in your colon (or something more severe than IBS), which really should be checked over, just incase.

As waste is separated from material that can be used as fuel for the body, it is moved through the large intestine. Within the large intestine, the waste absorbs available water to make a bulkier stool. When waste is not moving properly through the bowels, it can accumulate and become impacted in the colon, creating discomfort. One of the more common symptoms is bloating.

Bloating is the swelling of the abdominal region which may be uncomfortable or painful. It may last for only a few days for some, or for long periods of time for others. Occasional bloating associated with constipation is frequently brought on by life circumstances such as travel, a change in diet, or pregnancy. Chronic bloating with constipation is not a disease, but a symptom of an underlying problem. This constipation related bloating can develop for a number of reasons and can be a source of discomfort and self-consciousness.
I work for the Global Healing Center, and we speak to people with this issue every day, it is hard to deal with I know!

You have CLASSIC symptoms of Celiac Disease. Symptoms of Celiac Disease include constipation OR diarrhea (or both), severe bloating, nausea, headaches, depression, excessive gas, stomach discomfort or pain, anemia, etc. There are many, many possible symptoms and a patient can have none, one, or all of them. Celiac Disease is an autoimmune disorder that causes the immune system to attack the intestines after gluten consumption. Gluten is the protein found in wheat, barley, rye, and oats. The only treatment necessary is total abstinence from gluten, no medications to purchase or anything. If you DO have Celiac and you don't avoid gluten you are at a much higher risk of developing other autoimmune disorders, intestinal cancer, malnutrition, severe anemia, osteoperosis, osteopenia, etc. For more information on Celiac please visit www.celiac.com and www.glutenfreeforum.com. The last website is a support group for Celiacs, but we often answer questions from people who think they may have Celiac, so feel free to join and post. It's a wonderful environment and if you don't have Celiac they can probably offer up some other answers. Good luck! If you can't afford to get tested at the doctors for Celiac, you can try a gluten free trial to see if it helps your bloating and constipation.
