Honestly, the imaging technology is going to be there, whether you want it or not. And eventually, it's just going to be accepted, and then required.

Let's face it, what terrorist is going to say "oh, yes, please scan my person for knives, guns, and other contraband items!"

Give me the machine any day of the week. When I left Jordan many years ago I had to go into what was basically a changing room, strip to my underwear & then got a patdown. Talk about an invasion of privacy.

It's my understanding that the person reviewing the machine never sees the passenger in person. Hey, I'm old, fat, and gravity is not my friend and would rather not be put in the position of having a stranger check out my aging wares, but having another layer of security is welcome.

My question is this:

Growing up whenever I had to get an x-ray they always put a lead apron over the lap to protect from sterilization.

Are these special x-rays that don't emit radiation? Because as far as I know that is the only kind of x-ray, radiation.

As far as it's effectiveness, if it were found to be non-harmfull it would be easier to just walk through one with your luggage and combine the process into a single stage instead of putting your luggage here and taking your shoes off, and some going here and some there. Just a couple of lines through the machine with luggage in hand would increase the efficiency of airport security screening by 75%.

Wish I was manufacturing those. If you have the money to invest in the company that manufactures those machines I would bank heavy on them.

Personally, I would prefer the patdown, but I'm kind of a perv, so it would be a cheap thrill for me... ;)) It doesn't matter as long as my safety and security on a plane are the priority...if they want to peak under an old ladies clothes, then THEY are bigger pervs than even me!

hmm pat down is more fun in a physical way but a machine that looks through your clothes can enjoyable as well, i'll just make sure that i walk through the machine with a huge hard on and a big smile like that guy from the enzyet commerical then give the friendly "hey buddy" wave.

a machine. a patdown through my thighs and around my breasts would be uncomfortable to me as i don't like hands on my body up and down there unless it's a doctor or my b/f.

I have travelled several times where I got a patdown, and it was no big deal. Let's just be safe when we fly.

If I were carrying something to conceal, I'd go for the pat down any time.

Since I'm not, the machine scan is fast and simple and you don't have to take off your shoes

Definitely the machine, any time.

The machine scan is much less invasive than a strip search.

The machine. Every time I use it, the girl watching the screen gives me a big grin.
