My mom did.
but I can only speak for myself here.

But yes, my mom taught me about christ, but when I was old enough, she let me CHOOSE my own path.

And that played a HUGE roll in my life.

Religion is very important in life. Mothers do play an major role in a child's spiritual upbringing but so do fathers, grandparents, aunts and uncles if they are a close family. Children copy what they see the people around them doing - if it's having a spiritual life with God or if it's being a drug addict. If it's being a kind, loving person or being selfish and cruel. They copy what they see.

People have a built-in need for God's direction.

Unfortunately, most religions in our day are far removed from the teachings & principles of God. So, even those who belong to & follow those religions continue to have troubles they were hoping to eliminate.

Yes, Mothers can play an important role in the spirituality of their children.

However, Fathers may have an even deeper influence.

I know many who are very spiritual, whose parents were both un-interested in spirituality, though. (Myself included.)

The articles I've listed links for give many details as to why I answered the way I have.

It is true that the role of Mother is vital in upbringing the child by nurturing pray and pray methods of GOD. In our culture so many practises prevailed in all Castes in our Hindu Way of Life. All religions are good and important. Only obstacle , I feel so, very very little percentage are entering the spiritual arena. In our way no religious rigidity, adopting various methods and adaptability to enter the orbit of spirituality. In my opinion the most cruel thing is convert ion menace. Religion if one truly follows reshapes the person with greater heights to evolve further in the spiritually that what I feel. In child hood, mother sings songs like "Jo achyuthananda Jo mukunda" and so on so forth till the child go to sleep in the cradle.

Consider it like this in a man's life:
learning to stand (childhood), learning to walk (teenage), and walking by self (adulthood).

Mum teaches the child to walk, i.e., lays the foundation for beliefs and approach.
Schools, colleges, and friends are responsible for making the child to learn to walk, i.e., prepare to face the world and consolidate the foundation of belief.
Once in the open world, as a grownup, that child is walking on his own, i.e., walks along the path he has learnt and accepted.

In my opinion, mum begins the spiritual upbringing, however, the environment out of his home during early years too contribute a lot - either in consolidating or changing beliefs.

And we should never forget - time is the best teacher! If time so decides, a man can find himself getting spiritual even at the age of 60!

Yes, our upbringing has a major part of what we think and how we will respond to the Gospel Of Jesus Christ. Religion isn't as important as Relationship with God. This is all he wants is to have a relationship with us!! And we can do this by repenting of our sins, being baptized by immersion to wash them away. Then we will receive His Spirit, called the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in an unknow language. We are Born Again into His Family. God is waiting to do a miracle in your life, could you at least let Him do that for you?

Religion, actually, isn't very important. I'm an atheist, but I'm still a well-rounded individual. I don't do drugs (and never will), don't smoke, don't drink, I get good grades, etc. The most important thing to do in a child's upbringing is show the difference between right and wrong, explain why these things are right and wrong, and what good comes out of following the rules. Also, show the child that no matter what they believe, and no matter the mistakes they make in life, that you'll always love them.

My parents let me choose the direction I wanted to go in terms of religion. Even though they weren't religious themselves, they encouraged me to go to church, and never once showed disappointment in that I "hadn't followed in their footsteps". And when I decided that religion wasn't for me, they hadn't treated me any differently. You don't know how important it is to me knowing that my parents will support me no matter what I decide to believe in.

What do you think relegion is ?
Its not just a word .... its not just a term which people follow or diffrent ways of doing prayers ...... or what a mum teaches ... its why a mum teaches her kids and how does it effects the Kid as a Part of Human Soceity.

Religion is the single most reason for the development of Human Being as a race of this Planet earth ....
Why coz religion is all about faith ...... faith and belifes .... faith beliefs and experinces ........ passed on to the generations .... this whole things has kept us grounded .... to have customs .... to have ceremonies ...... Well some may be good so may be bad ..... diffrent things and faiths may be follwed for centuries ..... Its not just about going to Church or a Temple on a regular basis ... it is much more then that ... it is the basis of our faith systems and communities ..... if Human Beings did not have an umbrella of religion we would still be scattered living in primal caves and there would have been no structure of scoitey as a whole and consecutivle no development in different areas of life like science ... trade ... relations ....... and our whole existence on this planet

Religion was once part of upbringing of a child. Nowadays, it is more important to teach kids the way to distinguish what is truth and what is fiction.

Man needs education and training to live decently as man.
Religion is the best education, because in creating us, God knows what is the human nature and how we can learn to develop all our physical, intellectual, spiritual capacities. Yes, religious education is the most perfect education on earth.
Religion is not cults, rituals, formalities...It is the wisest counsels of the One True God revealed through His Divine Messengers in Their Holy Books. Today, we can directly get our education through these Books, not through any forms of human fanaticism or doctrination. God ordains that all human beings can use their free will to indepently seek for the divine truth.
