My milk came in yesterday so I got a pump and started feeding my baby (born: 2-18-07) and shes had diarrhea since. Could that be the change from the pro sobe formula she was drinking or could my milk be upsetting her cuz of something in it? Should I switch back to the formula?

Breast fed babies have runny poop. It's not diarrhea...it should be really runny, yellow, with small chunks in it. As they get bigger, they'll have even less frequent movements because breast milk is so efficiently digested.

You could take him to the pediatrician, a two week check- up should be in order anyway. But it is extremely rare to have an allergy to breastmilk because it doesn't have the same proteins as other milks.

you shouldn't switch back to formula. An infants stool is much more runny when nursing. (think of it more like bird poop consistency) and should be mustard yellow colored. That's normal.

also bacteria in an un properly cleaned bottle can cause diarrhea

If she does have an allergy it may be to something your eating. At that point you should not give up nursing but try eliminating things from your diet one thing for one week and see if that helps, then try another. Start with milk as thats the most comkmon, give up dairy for a week, if there is no improvment you can resume eating it and try something else.

if you are REALLY worried be sure to ask your pediatrician

I think most babies don't have an allergy to breast milk since it is the most natural for your baby in general. Babies who are breast fed tend to have looser stool and the change from formula to breast milk may also cause the looser stool. I would stick with the breast milk because it is the best for the baby. Your baby will be better off in the long run.

Babies dont usually have solid type stool until they are eating solids. A breastfed baby is supposed to have soft stools. Just keep nursing your baby as much as she wants to and you will see it is normal for her stool to look like that. By the way, you dont have to for your milk to "come in" to feed the baby. You produce colostrum first, which is the rich thick start the baby needs...

What the F*** hell are you doing PUMPING milk into a baby.

Yes, I am not suprised that there is something wrong with the baby, it is probably from what ever your using.

You should be breast feeding it, obviously.

You need to seriously considering seeing a doctor or specialist in child care. I am really really worried about the way you think you should look after a baby. Really really worried!

More than likely it is the formula. The same nutrients your feeding her now, is similiar to what was delivered in the womb. Check with Doctor.
