How do I get BIG Utah hair?

Question

Utah hair is not quite 80's hair, but its big on top just to add height, and it looks really good. Usually its then pulled back. Any suggesttions please let me know

I am a Licensed Cosmetologist/Instructor in Utah and it's really pretty easy.
You will need
Lots of Hair Spray
A backcombing comb, preferrably with a wire styling pick on the end, but any comb will do
A wire styling comb
A plastic bristle type or vent brush
A hair band, similar to a regular rubber band but made for hair so it won't pull out the hair when it's removed.

This usually works on hair that was washed the day before, but, if you must wash it, make sure to dry it completely first. And you will need more hair spray. Alot more.

Brush the hair back at the crown to get an idea of how much "poof" you want. Most girls have the crown area big and the rest is pretty straight around the face. Then starting in the back alittle past the crown separate into a section cross ways so that the parting is running from side to side the wide of the crown area plus alittle, and about maybe 1 inch or so in width from front to back. Now backcomb very tightly on the backside of the parting. Spraying hair spray on the back of the parting and re-backcombing and spraying until done.
You will know when you have backcombed enough because the parting will stand straight up in the air. Then make another parting in front of that parting about the same size, and repeat. Continue doing this until about 1/3 to 1/2 of the top of the head from back to front is standing straight up. Then take the brush and gently comb back the entire area but, not combing out the backcombing, basically what you are trying to do with the brush is to smooth out the very top layer that will cover all the backcombing once the hair is finished. Once the top layer is smooth but the backcombing is still in place you can spray it forever. Not really, but it's best to several layers of spray. You can then finish styling the front of the hair usually towards the face but still straight, not curley. I guess you could do it curley if you want, but, if you want to be true, current, Utah big hair, this is how.
Then if you want it pulled up in the back you just gently pull it up like you are going to do a ponytail and use the hair band and put it in a ponytail, for a twist on that, most of my students take the rest of the ponytail and pull it halfway through the band again leaving it about half and half in the band. I hope that makes sense. That's the jest. Hope this helps. Mainly just lots of hair spray, lots of backcombing and that's pretty much it. Good luck.
