I want to take a break alone by myself. When I have suggested this my husband said that I am "crazy" and that isn't normal. I just feel like I need my space and time to just relax.

We live in a tiny house. We both accumulate clutter. We have 2 dogs, 4 cats and a teenager.

I'm always the person people come to at work for answers. We have a cluttered and noisy environment at work.

I just feel like it is all closing in on me.

Is it normal to just want to take a break from your life....go off to a cheap motel room and read a magazine for the weekend?

Absolutely normal.

As a matter of fact, a girlfriend and I are both running away from our families next weekend for three days. Our husbands think we're nuts, but actually encourage us to go, because they know how positive an experience it is for us.

One of the things that I do on "runaway" weekends is decide how I can make it easier to be at home. This usually includes coming home and de-cluttering the house quite a bit, so that I stop feeling so claustrophobic in my own home. It also includes making sure we're on track financially, setting some six-month personal goals, and talking with my family about what's bugging us/how to fix it. After Mom takes a weekend away, everyone feels better.

The other thing I do is eat sweets, lounge around and enjoy simply listening to silence.

Go for it and enjoy some "you" time.

Your husband sounds a little controlling. It is perfectly OK for you to go away - don't go to a cheap motel room though try to go somewhere that has a nice outlook - that helps you relax. Women often take on all the difficult jobs in the family - helping the kids with their school work - housework (which is hard because you do it and in a few days you have to do it again) and if you work as well you are working harder than anyone else in the family.Of course you need some time to yourself. No matter what your age - having time to your self helps you focus on what is important to you not just you within the construct of your family and their expectations of you. Go away and have a good time.

I sure can understand that closed in feeling. Everyone needs some down time to just relax. However, I question the value of spending a whole weekend alone in one room. Perhaps the time would be better spent visiting a friend or relative in another town.
Try and think of activities that will renew and energize you. Spending time outdoors enjoying nature works for me. Or you could check for women's weekend retreats in your area. That would offer you a balance of social and solitary time for reflection.
Do you have any hobbies? Perhaps some creative endeavours will provide some respite from the demands of work and home.
All the best in your quest for peace and fulfillment.

Go far it lady. Treat yourself, because if mama aint happy then aint nobody happy. Tell your husband I need this for myself. If you think it is crazy just watch and see what crazy really is. Or tell me to have a nice time!!! My husband was the same way, now im happy and I take time for myself, hot tubes, pamper your self, do something with your girl- friends, you need to laugh, you need to smile. I have had 4 teenagers, now I have a 13, believe me you need this time.... take care of mama.
