Fluid retention was what I thought of, though it should show in the ankles too, if that is the case. But sometimes you don't recognize ankle swelling by sight. Do you feel some slight tingling of a very tiny bit of pain in the ankles? That might be a sensory sign that fluid is building up there, even if you can't recognize it by sight. Get a good doctor to take a look at it and to test you. Fluid buildup is no joke because it might indicate something more serious, like the beginning of kidney trouble.

You could have poor circulation, or as stated before, fluid retention. Try elevating your legs and see if that helps. If the problem doesn't go away, or gets worse, go to the doctor.
