because that's when they start hoping for the intercession of a higher power-when there's a problem they can't affect themselves. it's a kind of insecurity. there's comfort in the notion of a higher power. you don't need comforting unless there's something wrong.

Not all people pray only when they have a problem but for some people that is probably the only way they feel they can be helped. In my opinion, such people still have faith and believe that there is a God somewhere. They might not be religious but maybe when they do pray that odd time, they pray with all their heart. It is better than not praying at all.

99% of the time we can be distracted by the krap in life -

TV, new clothes, new car, what people think about them, are they popular, etc.

That saying: It's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven - says it all.

Nobody thinks about God as much as the needy. The rich forget about God until their life goes wrong.

As human beings, especially in the West, we take everything for granted - our health, our loved ones, food, home, life without starvation/ disasters. 90% of the time people don't "need" God. Then a problem arises and all of a sudden they remember that God is there.

If God were a person we would hate to see him treated the way he is by other people. We've all had friends who dump on us and are only there when they need something.

God gets that treatment all the time.

For truly faithful people, the good times are a reason to pray as much as the bad times. Whatever day it is.

Good question, man. It's this kind of question that helps to remind us how much we forget about God.

Human psychology is such that "We" believe that "We" are capable of getting everything done by ourselves. Only when there is a failure or setback in the system we tend to look up & see if somebody else is responsible for the failure. To simplify when one of your bodily organs fail to function the normal way , you realise that something is wrong somewhere & you have to do something to set it right. Little do we realise or feel that the very functioning of the system as a whole is happening by virtue of an "Unknown External Force or Power" & not by our doing or not doing something. So the Prayers to the " External Force" is nothing but an outcome of Cause & Effect phenonmenon! Once you know that you don't have a control over events you tend to look for someone to cling to or hold on & that is when we initiate our Prayers

Because they don't remember God only when they have problems!
But you should pray to God every time and to thank him for all the nice things he gave you. So he can help you when you are in trouble!

Lots of people pray all the time, not just when they "are in problems".

That's the same as asking: Why does an adult only go to visit his/her parens when he/she is in trouble? I think, in our society today, we've become incredibly selfish, caring only for our own needs and wants. You pose a good question. The answer to which lies in the way our society is shaped today; a fast paced world, where people will generally step over each other to get to where they want to be. Not right. So i hope if you pray, you'll do it more often when you feel thankful or appreciative, as opposed to when you NEED something. If we're sincere in our prayer, as we try to be sincere to those people close to us, we will find our relationship with God to be more rewarding. :)

They do that because most people think that the only time they need God in their life is when they are in trouble or need help with something!!! They also do that because they know God is always there for them!!! But no matter what you should pray to him and thank him for your life !!!
