That His love for us is unending and eternal! That His love for His only begotten Son, Jesus is the same, and He showed through the lesson to Abraham, for all time, just how much it would 'cost' Him to save sinful mankind!
Abraham was told, after waiting for decades for a child, an heir, when at last Isaac finally comes along, to go up to some mountain and sacrifice, his long awaited, only son! God Almighty, who loves His begotten Son Jesus showed us, just how much it would hurt Him deeply to have to sacrifice His perfect, sinless, holy Son Jesus.
Although God sent the angel to stay Abraham's hand before he slew his only son Isaac, and provided the sacrifice of the sheep, no such rescue was allowed for our loving, sacrifice, Jesus!!! Without the shedding of His precious blood, there could not possibly be forgiveness of mankind's multitude of sins . . .
This is what I get out of the example of Abraham and Isaac story!

Actualy it only confirmed what I had come to know of God already... I did not know a lot of The Bible when I came to know God... But the story dose confirm that God will remain Faithful and can be trusted in all that He askes of us.... Abrahm profited from being Faithful to God... But if you read other stories you will find others who did not profit in a worldly way but had to wait untill Heaven to gain the rewards for their faithfulness... either way God will provide what is needed for those faithful to Him.... my life is a mess... but I know that God's promise to me, at the instant of my Salvation, will be kept... my place in Heaven is assured... I Got God's Word on it... so did Abraham...

I saw that God wants us to trust him and love him more than anyone else. When he told Abraham to kill his son Isaac he was not being cruel but he wanted to make sure Abraham loved him more than Isaac. God never intended to kill Isaac but to try Abraham's faith before he blessed him.

The "Experiencing God" material explores how God dealt w/ Abraham extensively.

That GOD's delay (with Sarah's pregnancy) is not GOD's denial. And if we get impatient and try to "help" GOD along (like the Hagar/Ishmael mess) we will have consequences.

The one where he tried to kill this son?

Abraham was a total idiot, and he didn't love his son very much. What father would kill his son? He should have died for Issac.

He Enjoys watching Punk'd.

Seriously, he knows EVERYTHING, but asks his follower to kill his son to test his faith. His follower goes to do it, and at the last minute God's all, "PSYCHE!," and a goat dies instead.
