My cat has two long and deep scratches on her belly. I have no idea how they got there since she is an indoor cat. I am very puzzled by this because they are very deep. However, she licks them constantly and now she has no hairs around that area. Could this be some kind of skin infection? How can I make her stop? I have even put a band-aid but it falls off and the alcohol I've been putting seems to hurt her more. Please help me!

Give yourself a nice deep cut and pour alcohol in it! Duh!
Stop that!
Animals have stuff in their saliva that will help heal wounds.
Hasn't anyone told you to let the dog lick you if you have a wound? It is true!
She is keeping the hair around the wound down and clean so it does not get in it and cause problems. She is doing what her instincts tell her to do. There are no vets in Africa to help the lions when they are cut. They lick and clean and take care of it.
Leave her alone with it.
As for where it came from - are there other cats in the house? Does she climb? Could she have slipped and fallen from something and scratched her belly. Is she not hanging out in a spot where you wuold normally seen her, if so check out her usual area to see if you can find a culprit!
Don't pour alcohol on your cat. EVER! A cats skin is very thin and very sensitive!
Let her be for a while. Keep your eye on the scratches. Don't let them get all weapy and nasty - get her to the vet.
But if she is taking care of them - let her! She does know what is best with this one.

First off, where or how she got the scratches is not important except for future injurys. There there, and I'm sure it hurts. Putting a small amount of alcohol mite burn alittle, gut would kill germs. Not recomended, but it does kill germs and clean infections. Next, cats, like alot of other animals, have a large amount of healing power in their tongues. They are able to help heal themselves faster by licking the wound and keeping it clean. I believe having kittie lick these scratches should increase the healing time. The hair will grow back. If these cuts are very deep and expose a threat to internal things, then yes get to the Vets office right away.Otherwise, watch it closely and let her/him lick itself and see if heals some on its own.

have you taken the cat to the vet? it doesn't sound too serious but the vet may be able to give you something to help the cuts heal faster. Unless the scratches are really red and puffy, they are probably not infected. The hair is most likely gone because of the cat licking it so much. Call the vet and see what they suggest.

I watch animal planet all the time, emergency vets and there was an episode on this morning about that. Sometimes they get mites right under the skin. You need to take your cat to the vet for a check up. It could get all over her body and she will start losing hair in the handfuls.

Generally around a year old but it can vary depending on a lot of different factors. However, if a female gets pregnant earlier than that she usually won't grow any more. A growth spurt at 18 months is not unknown but neither is it very common. Nothing to worry about though, as long as it is growth and not just excess weight as a result of overeating.

My cat cut her stomach before and i put a bandage on the wound than got gauze and wrapped it around her stomach a couple of times. After that she couldn't lick it and it stayed clean and in a couple of days it was all better.

Um, that cat NEEDS to go to the vet. I have no idea what it is, but that is all the more reason fer her to see a vet. It will only get worse if you don't know what it isa nd can't treat it. Take her before the vets can't do anything to help her.

its kinda normal for hair too fall out around a wound. it keeps it from getting into the wound and causing infection.
she licks the wound cause its her way of keeping it clean. believe me, no antiseptic or ointment out there is better than her own saliva. she knows what she's doing.
leave her be. you'll see that she will heal quickly.
if, however, the wounds start to fester, or start discolouring or smelling bad, then i suggest the intervention of a vet.

alcohol,Ouch! Your kitty needs a trip to the vet! I think the licking of the wound is just to clean it as much as she can.
