Not trying to be mean. But think about it. African Americans couldn't vote, they couldn't hold property, and they were subjected to special sections on the back of the bus. Gays, meanwhile, have none of that and actually hold above average incomes, jobs, and houses.

I went on the Center for Disease Control website and there were 3 times as many hate crimes for race as there were for sexual orientation, and actually in most years, more religious hate crimes than for sexual orientation. And some of the sexual orientation crimes were gay on gay crime?

I understand that homosexuals are picked on and made fun of, and it isn't right. But aren't fat people, nerds, people with speech impediments, or anyone who is different made fun of? They don't get special laws, so please tell me why homosexuals should? Aren't gays trying to get you to think they are persecuted more than they are to get what they want through Congress, even though most people disagree with it?

Also, Matthew Shepard was killed by people he knew and who were on meth. ABC did a report on this -another falsely reported hate crime. He was killed in a drug deal gone bad, even though the public falsely let you believe that he didn't know his killers...they were friends.

No. I believe that homosexuals are just drama.... not that I am anti-gay, don't get me wrong, you love who you love, only God can judge you and you face Him on judgement day... but I believe that homosexuals are seriously drama queens/kings... whatever they choose to be called. I have a gay friend, and he has brought more drama into my life since he came out of the closet in September than any of my other straight friends my whole life... and all his gay friends always have drama. So I think that the gays just want attention and to get it, they'll do, say, or be whoever they want, which is why they are homosexual in the first place, right?

It really depends on where in the world and where in your nation you live.

I worked for a school district as a substitute teacher and at every orientation, they'd openly state that if you were found to be gay or atheist, you'd be terminated on the spot and you'd forfeit any unpaid wages. I live in Arkansas.

I imagine things are vastly different for substitute teachers in, say, San Francisco or the UK.

However, I do believe that denying us the legal benefits of marriage (call it civil union, domestic partnership, 'fagbonding' I couldn't care less what the gov't calls it...) is a form of persecution, the government standing up and making a moral lifestyle choice when it should have only a hand in a contractual issue.

On the flip side... we tend to bring it on ourselves at times. This whole "gay pride parade" thing really, REALLY needs to go the way of the smilodon and mammoth and dinosaur -- they aren't about pride, most of them are about shoving the many MANY kinks down everyone's throat... NOT the way to earn respect. The way to earn respect is subtlety and honesty.

"Bob, is that a rainbow on your board? What are you, some kinda queer?"
"Yes, I am."
"S...seriously? You've worked here five years and I never knew."
"It was never an issue, I was and am here to do my job, and my sexuality isn't exactly a work-related concern."

I see your point. I look at it like this. I am a gay male. I think there is a lot of hate out there against us. It goes farther than hate though. In 33 states it is not against the law for employers to fire their employees based on sexual orientation. We cannot marry our partners or even get a civil union. However, we do have above average incomes, jobs and houses. We can't get the same tax breaks. It is not equal. That is not ok. Some get and some don't. Does it really matter what it is? All rights should be available to all people. Imagine if you were overweight, so therefore you can't get married to anyone nor can you have insurance because you are too big. When two gay men spend their whole lives together and one is sick, they are not allowed to visit at the hospital because they are not "family" but a str8 person eyes. Yes it is terrible. I could go on and on and on. Your not gay, however you have the right to vote against me. It is not right. Where people get off thinking they can make laws against me and my life is beyond me. I try and not get mad at str8 people and woman especially. Sometimes I can't help it.

There is no right or wrong answer to the question. Some are certainly persecuted and others are probably whiners. It's like everything else in life. Nobody gets a free ride in life. I live in London, and I'm American. Some people hate me for that and others think its cool...just an example, but makes the point. If there is persecution then it needs to be stopped, but they shouldn't get to be overly advantaged either. We are all just people, and we all deserve to have opression eliminated from our lives.

Homosexuals are not allowed to marry in most states, they do not have property laws if they are partners in most states, they cannot provide their partner with health insurance coverage in most states, they have to be subjected to ridicule for reasons of sexual orientation which they did not choose they were born with, the 'don't ask don't tell' rule in the military doesn't protect them from being attacked if 'found out', families have abandoned them for being gay,
in most churches they are not allowed to be ordained and have to put up with prejudices of all kinds in these same churches, they have to lie to their employers much of the time to keep employment............it's not the same as being made fun of at all.
Please educate yourself a little further before making statements that only perpetuate more lies and untruths.

The reason there are so many more hate crimes for race reasons is that race is such an obvious thing.
If homosexuals had rainbow colored skin, making it obvious that they are homosexuals, then you would see an increase in the hate crimes against them.
Hate is ugly no matter who you are hating...
Peace

And BTW, fat people, nerds, and people with speech impediments are allowed to marry the people they love...

Throughout recorded history& the whole animal kingdom there has always been a percentage of same sex orientation--that's just the way it is---perhaps they over react to the rejection they experience from society & it must be a lifestyle that has more than it's share of confusion--but I'd suggest they are only seeking the tolerance & acceptance that society affords left handed people--or red haired people--in other words---live & let live.

i don't think they should get any special laws at all i don't care if they r having sexx with the same sexx to tell the truth
and personally i am a christian and the bible says a man should not be with another man and a woman should not be with another woman so they r defining god's rules that he made 4 us at the beginning of time
and i also think if a person is homosexual, or bisexual they should be put in jail cause a man should love a woman and a
man not the other way around and so that the next generation will not become gays and lesbians..

Yes, they are. They're the new thing for people to bash and hurt. unlike the rest of humanity that has rights, gays are denied the right to marry, they aren't allowed the right to sit by their loved ones bed if loved one is in the hospital because they aren't family, etc.

Yes, they are most definately treated badly. They just aren't beaten with whips every day like the slaves were.

Couldn't say, know that persecution is wrong period.
Do know that people of any minority within a different majority
(i.e. minority black to majority white: AND minority white to
majority black) stand a fair chance of some sort of persecution'
in various severities -- it all depends on the surrounding majority
mood.
