I have two cats. The female is two and a half, and she never made a sound for the first year that we had her. When she was six months old, we adopted a stray kitten who was very vocal. Gradually, the female cat has begun to meow, but she's does it in a very dainty Little voice. I don't know if she has become more vocal because I talk to her a lot and she's trying to respond, or whether it's a learned behaviour that she's copied from the boy cat.

Cats mainly communicate with each other by body language and my two don't "talk" to each. It's only when one has annoyed the other that I'll hear a hiss or low growl between them. Often cats only become vocal with another cat when they are getting into a fight situation and they do it to try and scare off their opponent.

Cats are vocal with humans, because we don't understand their body language and it's one way of getting our attention when they want something.

My last cat lived to be 19 and I never heard her purr once, she use to puff out her cheeks instead. It's still not understood
exactly how cats produce the purring sound, so there's no clear explanation why some do and some don't.

Don't be worried that she's so quiet. Just as with humans - some are quiet, while others don't know when to stop talking.

I will bet you didn't know this... Humans are the only animal cats meow around. This is a totally mind blowing thing if you truly think about it.
How old is your cat?
Maybe she just doesn't have much to say.
I have heard of cats that can not purr.
Maybe she is so content she doesn't feel the need to vocalize. As long as you know she is healthy, don't let this bother you. Some cats are very vocal and some are not. It just depends on the personality.
Be glad, she could be crying and meowing all the time!

My cat doesn't either. No sounds. She hardly ever purrs, and when she does, it doesn't sound right. My vet says there is nothing wrong with her, some cats just don't vocalize. I know my cat was thrown out of the litter, and found abandoned, so maybe she just wasn't socialized. It is weird though having a silent cat.

i might could believe the different responses that he could be a she in warmth. woman cats in warmth will make that trilling noise just about consistently. Mine does!! it rather is a threat that he/she became identity'd as a male while a kitten with the aid of mistake. this errors has happened many instances interior the look when I artwork at, particularly with long haired cats. many instances the thick fur can fool somebody. additionally, it rather is desperate incorrect, only with the aid of the undeniable fact that maximum human beings do no longer in all risk seem. They swipe a speedy hand around the returned of the underbelly and make certain what they "felt". i understand this sounds unusual, even nonetheless it has happened earlier. i might definately, nonetheless, take the kitten to the vet for an examination. whether it rather is unquestionably a male, he looks attempting to tell you some thing is incorrect. solid luck

The first cat with whom I ever shared my home didn't say much, either. He opened his mouth to meow, but no sound came out. There was nothing wrong with him, and he lived a long and happy life. I think he was 23 when we lost him.

ktray1275: Cute answer, but shouldn't that read "He took a meow of silence"? ;-)

My cat never made sounds either. She would look at me and open her mouth like she was meowing, but nothing would come out. I moved recently though and now she meows more often - especially when it is wet food night!
All cats are different. You just happen to have a quiet one.

Some cats are just normally quiet and those are blessings to be truthful. If she is loving and nurturing enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.
