I want to lose AT LEAST 10 pounds in 3 weeks.

I usually excercise for 20 minutes, 3 days a week, but this past week have stepped it up to working out everyday, burning at least 200 calories per session.
Is this a smart/effective way to lose the weight? Should I pay more attention to the calories burned, or the minutes spent working out?

What else can I do (aside from dieting- already doing it)? What exercises can I do to lose inches on inner thighs, tummy, and upper arms, and under chin (the worst!)?

For one week straight, stick to 800 calories per day; you can do it! Eat lots of veggies, low fat yogurt and fruit. Turkey or chicken are fine./ Use the treadmill for 1 hour each evening. /Make sure when you are at work during the day you stay activce, run to the copier, drink a lot of water. If you get hungry, drink water. You should lose 8-10 pounds in 7-8 days. /no liquor or beer

First, I want to say that this may not be healthy or even attainable. Much of the weight you may lose may be water weight.

That said, some people are able to slim down and tone up quicker than others, so you may be able to make a noticeable change, whether you lose 10 lbs or not.

First, 20 minutes is not long enough of a workout for weight loss. Provided you are otherwise healthy and your doctor has ok'd intensive exercise for you, step it up. Minimum 1 hr 5x week of cardio, plus weight training every 2nd day to build and tone muscle. Muscle will make you look pulled in and slimmer, and will help you burn more calories that fat. You will look toned, not bulky.

Most of the machines that calculate "calories burned" are not incorrect. Your best bet would be to buy a heart rate monitor to make sure you in are in your target zone.

Interval training is the best. Sprint for 2 minutes, then lightly jog for 5. Use "hill" programs on exercise bikes and treadmills.

Really watch your diet, but don't starve yourself. If you go below 1200 calories/day, your body will begin to conserve anything you eat, and you will not lose weight, and may even GAIN.

Eat healthy small portioned and frequent meals. Eat beans, lean protein, brown rice, oatmeal, veggies, fish, and olive oil. Drink lots of water and cut out sodas.

Buy a cheap "Ab Ball" or stretchy exercise band, along with hand weights to tone.

Walk everywhere, and ALWAYS take the stairs.

Get lots of good sleep, and do stretching and yoga to stay stress free during this time. Stress increases the production of cortisol, which can increase body fat.

Be prepared to work hard. You will only see results from the work you put into it. There are NO miracle diets or pills. Only healthy eating and hard work.

Good luck!

You need to pay attention to calories burned...the more you burn, the more weight you will lose. I would up your sessions to 45 minutes and do 3 or 4 days a week instead of everyday. Give you body some time to rest. And you can't target a certain area to lose weight...cardio will help you lose weight everywhere especially your inner thighs and tummy. The fat under your chin will start to go away too, along with your arms, but your body will most likely burn from the tummy and thighs first. Just keep up with the cardio. For extra calorie burn try lifting weights if you want. that will help you tone up.

Good luck. I've lost lots of weight and kept it off, but over a long period of time. Weight loss that's healthy and permanent comes from sheer persistence in a diet/exercise program and sometimes you lose and sometimes you gain, but over time the trend is generally down. For example, I was stuck at a certain level for most of the last year and then I started to lose weight some more, so I am now ten pounds less than I was about three months ago (I checked with my doctors who do regular blood monitoring, and they say there are no signs that I am losing because of some horrible wasting disease).

That having been said, my suggestion is that you do two things. Check with a very good nutritionist and fine-tune your diet, lookng at its composition as well as its total calories. Secondly, increase your amount of exercise (length, not necessarily intensity). Besides active exercise, do more standing (try standing for at least a half hour a day when you aren't exercising, or an hour if you can). Increase active exercise (walking or cycling) and split it into 15 minute segments (e.g., 4 times a day for 15 minutes each). Finally, think thin. I read of a study where people lost an average of two pounds beyond what they were likely to lose from monitored diet and exercise, because they were thinking that they were going to succeed — but I don't remember the length of time they were being monitored (pobably more than 3 weeks).

Good luck and keep on plugging.

Sure you can do it. Remember to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day it really helps keep water weight down believe it or not. Beyond that it's all about expending more calories than you take in try cutting back to no less than 1200 calories a day and keep up with the daily exercise.

3,500 calories = 1 pound

So you need to burn or cut 35,000 calories from your diet in the next 3 weeks. That comes out to 1,666 calories to lose per day.

You could be aggressive and cut 800 from your diet and work out 90 minutes each day to burn 800.

Good luck. This is why they say losing 2 lbs per week is better for you.
