There have been a few soldiers who have sought refuge in Canada as opposed to go back to Iraq because they tell of horrors - war crimes commited by Americans and private armies that don't follow any sort of human decency .

So are they all liars and cowardss or - maybe the free media in America isn't so free and represents the will of a President gone wrong .

Which should I believe

A few = There has been 3 soldiers that hit main stream media on page 22 buried in the back and the story has dropped off the face of the earth shortly thereafter

I have met six - hiding in Canada so they could be free from partaking in war crimes - Or so they claim

I don't have my mind made up but I do have some leanings - No I have no way of checking out there story - wether they were or weren't in the Armed forces nor do I have any real way of proving they are Americans

Nor do I have the inclination to go to Iraq and have a look see to check out there story .

That said - you could at least try to answer the question

That might be - but I'd still rather have lieing bas-tard Americans manipulating the imigration process than some other choices we have in the world .

Last time we took in Vietnam draft dodgers from America they were the very best of citizens - largely because they knew if they did anything wrong RCMP would just drive them to the border and say here your home now -

Well, Lt. Watada has refused to go to Iraq because he feels the war is illegal, and it is the duty of an officer to not obey an illegal order. His court martial was declared a mistrial. So it isn't only soldiers going to Canada who are very worried about how the war is being conducted. You can find more information from Iraq Veterans Against the War, and Veterans Against War (formerly Viet Nam Veterans Against War).

If you think the mainstream media is free and unbiased in its coverage in the USA, I would suggest you read newspapers/TV websites from around the world. That way you can determine for yourself if you think that our media is free or biased.

There have been soldiers who have sought refuge in Canada, and have been deported back. Canadian Immigration courts do not have the ability to declare the legality of the Iraq war, and since there is no direct 'illegal' orders to the soldiers, they are not considered refugees (and Canada should NOT take US citizens as refugees for any reasons). Basically, these soldiers are wanted criminals in the US because they have signed contracts entered into voluntarily. Vietnam draft dodgers were just that....DRAFT dodgers. These deserters are just that, deserters. Most of these soldiers if found in Canada have stopped trying to fight extradiction because they know they will lose, and Canada is not the refuge for criminals and those who refuse to complete the terms of their work contracts. So yes, they could be considered cowards and liars, mainly because they say they have been given illegal orders, but have no proof apart from they think the Iraq war is illegal. No the media is not controled by GWB, GWB was voted in and has done exactly what he said he would do.....and if the Democrats don't come up with better presidential candidates, then expect another Republican President in 2008.

Talk about jingoism. Americans are always accused of this, but Canadians take it to a new level, constantly talking about how great their country is - but always bashing another country as a comparison in the process.

We know you exist. Get an identity, and try thinking in the positive now and then.

For each movement, endeavor, action or inaction, there are always definitions. Some call them 'deserters,' others call them 'wimps' or 'scaredy cats'...I prefer they are called men of free spirit who, for whatever the reason, do not believe in fighting old man wars,or being forced to witness atrocities all under the title of 'the spoils of war' or 'collateral damage'. Despite others, (and we all have a right to our own opinions) I truly believe that men who are NOT willing to die for a cause defined by the perpetrators as honorable, but which cause is actually based on lies, are no different than those who have learned to 'turn the other check'.......

Sorry, I don't buy your "soldiers coming to Canada to avoid warcrimes" story. And it sounds to me like you already have your mind made up about what you want to believe. Yes, if you've run across Americans claiming to be soldiers they ARE liars and cowards.

I have family in the military currently serving in Iraq and I find your accusations pathetic. You know nothing about the US as evidenced by your question.

@Trout - I did answer your question. I said "Yes, if you've run across Americans claiming to be soldiers they ARE liars and cowards." The media in the US is most certainly not supportive of the war effort. If anything they have been trying to classify it as a failure ever since it began.

War is not for everyone. I did not re enlist because of Iraq (got out in 02). America really isnt for everyone anymore (I would choose to live elseware if not for family). I don't blame anyone for not going on Bush's crusade. We are not defending freedom and it is a waste of American Life and life in general. Our people are the best people in the world but the rich and powerful among us are no better or different from Bin Laden and the terrorist.

The conventional term is "deserter" and the practice was quite popular during the Vietnam War. What you decide to think of them should not be influenced by the media. Use your head and decide for yourself.
