The cats’ reproductive cycle occurs in four stages. Stage 1 is called “anestrus.” It’s a period of sexual inactivity. This occurs throughout the fall and winter, when the days are short. As the days get longer and spring and summer approaches, the “proestrus” period begins. During this period, a cat will act strangely and will begin to look for a mate, although she is not ready to have sex with a male cat yet. Then comes the “estrus” stage. This stage is more commonly called the “heat” stage. It is in this stage that a female cat will willingly mate with a male cat. Heat lasts for about 5 to 8 days, although it can be as short as 3 days or as long as 20 days. If a cat does not get to mate during the heat stage, the heat stage comes to an end and the “diestrus” stage begins. Diestrus is a brief period between cycles; it typically lasts from 2 to 14 days, but can last as long as 30 days. The cycle (proestrus, estrus, diestrus) will begin again. During the spring and summer, a cat will cycle continuously until they are either bred, have a false pregnancy, or the days get shorter and the weather colder

Cat cycles are worse than dogs, some do it every few months until bred, some do it only twice a year if strictly indoors, the more exposure to intact males they have the more they will go into heat. I know that cats can go into heat while still nursing a litter of kittens and get pregnant again. My cat cycled every other week at times and the vet said we had a lot of available intact males around and she would continue to cycle until bred. Just get her spayed, it's soooo worth the peace and quiet! Good luck

Cat's cycle is stimulated by day length. Some cats can seem to be in heat all spring and summer. Cats seem to be uncomfortable when they are in heat. They act desperate! Spaying is the best thing. Unspayed cats have problems other than producing kittens, they get more cancers.

The heat cycle is seasonal. Typically spring and fall. Unfortunately, they are noisy and unbearable during the heat cycle. Females will many times stay "in heat" until they are bred so it is best to spay her. You don't have to wait until she is out of heat to spay her.

If they aren't spayed, they come into heat quite often. You'll get tired of the constant howling and them sticking their fanny up into your face or other pet's faces and finally get your cat spayed.

Only a few days after their last season ended unless they are pregnant so that's why they should be spayed.
