It's kinda obvious by my name what kind I love. Allthough most large breeds are great. Danes have a special place in my heart because they are such gentle, mellow giants. Not to mention they are magnificent looking creatures.

I do love Great Danes, but my very favorite of the giant breeds is the Great Pyrenees..Our GP was just SO awesome, and worked on our exotic animal farm with such finesse...he would rescue our critters (baby ostriches) when they were stuck in the fence, ever so gently, and kept the coyotes away..(killed his first coyote at just 6 months old) He herded the baby animals to and from the feed and water, and slept with the babies to keep them warm..never wanting to leave his charges..but ever faithful to his job..
Awesome dog!

My friend had 3 Great Danes..they were always into mischief, chasing cattle and such..Great fun dogs, though

Rhodesian Ridgebacks! I own 2 a Livernosed Female and she is a year and a half, and a Black masked male who is currently 6 months old and as tall as she is. It is believed that Great Danes are a part of the Rhodesians bloodline, starting with the Wild Hottentot Hunting Dog with the Ridges, Early Bulldog, Great Dane, Irish Terrier, Bloodhound, Pointer, Greyhound, Saluki and along with some Mastiff in there.

As the Ridgeback is itself a mixed-breed dog, a number of Ridgeback owners have gone outside the breed with other breeds, ranging from Newfoundland to Australian Cattle Dog. Often these mixes are not intentional. As a general rule, the ridge carries into the pups, as well as other primary traits such as the large chest, stamina and gentle, protective nature (especially around children). Thus, nearly any Ridgeback-Mix will make a good family dog.

Oh yes, Great Danes! Once you've been owned by one, there is no going back. I've loved my Labs and my Rottie, but the Danes have wrapped themselves around my heart.

I have 2 black females,a black male and a beautiful brindle boy at present. All spayed and neutered. All rottenly spoiled.

My brindle is a 3 legger - he had a leg and shoulder amputated at 3 weeks old. He is not "handicapped" in any way, he can run as fast as the others, and do a standing jump into the box of the truck. Most people don't even realize that he has a missing leg when he is standing still. The little brat (little!!! - 130 lbs) gets away with an awful lot and we love him dearly.

Well Danes and St. Bernards are in the running for me. I have had a Fawn Brindle & White Dane names Sailor that I rescued about 4 years ago, she only live a year with me before getting a twisted gut and dying on the surgery table, I loved that dog so much, Shes been gone for 3 years now but want to get another. I had a St. Bernard when I was a kid, His name was Titan, he was awesome that kind of dog a kid needs in his/her life. Constant companion, gaurdian, friend, playmate he was the workds.
Though I have 7 dogs now I still want a dane and a bernard again. I have a Cane Corso/Pittbull mix named Sigmound and hes my biggest boy at the moment hes a hefty 86 pounds. Hes more Cane than Pitt I think though dont know, he was used to fight, but was too sweet and so they used him as a baiter dog. He was left for dead, almost starved, beated, ripped apart, broken bones, homemade tatoos burned all over him. He's 9 now and we have a slight, controlled aggression problem with stranger dogs, but he is well adjusted and sweet with people of all ages and a great companion. Hes currently rehabilitating my foster coonhound X Peekaboo and has taken her under his wing.

I'm with you, Fanatic! Great Danes are awesome!

I am currently owned by my 6th, 7th and 8th! All three are wonderful, incredible, beautiful and totally different in temperament and disposition. I have two really sweet ones and one that is mean as all get out!

I would never have thought that a Great Dane could be a good guard dog, but my Atticus is. His mate, Lady, and their son, Atlas, are typical attention hounds. They will make anyone pet them, but not Atticus. I've only seen one meaner than him. The only way I'd ever give up Atticus is if one of us died. He's a real sweetheart to me. Although all Danes are really loyal, most are not aggressive. Atticus has been, but, he's very obedient.

He's the second one that I've had that, if I left him out of his kennel and someone came to visit, would position himself between them and me. (Since I know he doesn't like strangers, I usually kennel him whenever anyone comes. Then he scares them as they walk past his kennel.)

I had another male Dane before Atticus, Sir Duke of Mozart, who could sense if someone wasn't feeling well. He would lie quietly beside the bed if anyone in the house was ill. He wouldn't move unless the patient moved.

There are as many reasons to love Great Danes as there are Great Danes. I've also had an English Mastiff, and a Saint Bernard, but Great Danes are my favorite.

German Shepards. They are beautiful, loyal and protective. Plus, they are disciplined and are great with kids.

I love Great Danes too. When I was living in Greece, there was actually a stray (!) pregnant Great Dane that we took care of until she gave birth and then got a national family to adopt her. We found all of her puppies good homes. She was the sweetest most gentle and loving animal I have ever met. I think of her still to this day.

English Mastiffs (and most Mastiff breeds) are my husband's favorite large breed. They are intimidating by look, but the best personality & temper.

My favorite large breed would probably be the Irish Wolfhound. Such a gentle giant!

Newfoundlands are probably one of the coolest dogs. Also in that list of the large breeds would be St. Bernards, Great Pyrneese, Danes,Mastiffs, and Rotties. I love Newfoundlands because they are so sweet tempered, and gentle but you would not want 175lb dog mad at you. LOL!!

I really like Danes too, and I really don't have a favorite large breed because I love almost all of them. I currently have a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Belgian Malinois.

I love St Bernards and Syberian Huskies because they are great pets and not only are they not agressive but the look mean enough that if you take a 100lb dog for a walk no one will mess with you but they are just awsome.
