If nothing else, to just respect the fact that the other has a different point of view and quit hounding one another over their beliefs. Is this too much to ask?

I know we have different points of view. I don't want to force change in anyone. By the way, atheism isn't a belief.

Oh, and I generally don't feel the need to tolerate religious doctrine being siphoned into secular law. Legislation should not in any way endorse, promote or prefer any specific religious "morality" or "dogma" and yet that's EXACTLY what's happening.

I value religious liberty. I value separation of church and state.

That's not so bad, is it?

In most cases, I find that majority of Atheists keep their philosophies about divinity and its existence or non-existence until they are challenged and personally bombarded with Brimstone and Hellfire threats. Thats usually when, even the most patient Atheist/non-believer can get really fed up and start to defend themselves.

Its funny, coz atheists of various catergories can co-exist pretty well with other types of non-believers... ever wonder how come its mostly the Over Zealous christians that irk them? And I truly doubt the various "factions" of unbelievers, gather together in some dank little attic and plan a attack plan on Christian concepts and philosophies... people do have other things to do... but who can blame them for defending themselves when their integrity is being trampled?

Didn't realize we were at war.

Most sensible Christians don't try to force beliefs; However, it's only natural that they would want to evangelize.

I think the bigger question is: Why would Atheists be so interested in the Religion and Spirituality secion of Y/A if they don't believe God (or god) exists in the first place?

They both need to feel respected by the other first. But I think that they some will never reconcile because their religious views are just too close to their heart.

Socially, day-to-day in real life, most of us are reconciled.
We don't these days, on the whole, go around burning each other. (History is something else, from yes, burning, to the Russian compulsory treatment of believers for mental illness.)

But there remains this awkward category of "truth", which, when it rears its ugly (or beautiful) head will cause an instant divide.

And there is an unbalancing factor. Christians who take their bible seriously do find an injunction in it to spread the "good news". More than one:
"Convince, exhort, rebuke," Paul orders Timothy...

So to be fair Christians are somewhat caught. To say nothing, in the pursuit of social harmony, is to be at odds with what they believe is required of them.

the Fundy variety of Christian will never be reconcile with anyone who isn't Fundy Christian. Fundy Christians won't even reconcile with moderate Christians or Christians of different sects
much less with Atheists, Pagans and Agnostics.

ONLY they know "God", only THEIR version of "God" is true and they seem to take it as a personal affront when you don't submit to their conversion techniques.

PS. note that i say "Fundy" so as to indicate that not all Christians are like that.

If Christianity would simply remove its fundamentalist evangelical problem, atheists would have no more need to attempt to do it for them.

I've always said, if your group has negative members, remove them or someone else will do it for you and you'll get a bad rep for not doing it yourself.

For Christianity, this is the fundies.

I love Atheists. God loves them, too. They know he is real-they are rejecting him to be able to justify the way they live.
Gazoo....respect others beliefs? Atheists believe in what?
