I had two well bonded parakeets but one died last night and I went and got her three friends (Cage is huge and figured that she would tear just one up, figured the more the merrier). She is a bit teritorial but seems to be allowing them to co-habitate with her, other than the occasional nip (which she gave her old companion as well). Is there anything that I can do to ease the transition? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

It probably would have been better to have the birds in another cage in the room for a while and let them hear each other before introducing them in the same cage.

If they aren't fighting I really do not think you have anything to worry about. Just make sure you give your first bird plenty of love so she can get over her loss.

Parakeets are pretty gregarious.

Should you have one or more anti-social parakeets seperate them and put the anti-social one in a seperate cage.

aww sorry to hear that..She should be fine. In the wild they live in groups of 20-60 and in the petstores they live in bigger groups too..Its in their instincts to live in groups...she'll get used to having them around...Best of Luck with her and the new ones...
