On what date did the recent peanut butter recall begin?

I bought some recently which has the recalled product code. However, I think I bought it after the recall began and assumed it would be safe since it wasn't recalled. Now I'm annoyed. What day did the recall begin, anyway?

I bought my jar on the 10th or 11th of Feb. I'm wondering if it was recalled anywhere before this date.

I remember hearing about the recall of Peter Pan and thought "see....brand name doesn't necessarily equal quality or safety" I didn't know it was the stuff from Wal-Mart too until after we started eating it. oops.

Oh, I absolutely threw it out. My husband has a compromised immune system because he has rheumatoid arthritis. RA is often treated with immuno-supressants. I kept the lids, of course, and they are being returned for a refund.

Understand the question. I want to know when it started BECAUSE I want to know if the store where I bought my peanut butter at had kept the recalled peanut butter on its shelves after the recall. So, YES, it does matter because I assumed what was on the shelves was NOT recalled when I was buying my peanut butter.

I'm an educated person I know time doesn't change the contents of a jar. Sheesh!

If you bought some with the recall code I would not take a chance. Perhaps the store hadn't cleaned the shelves yet. I know the rest of this answer is probably more than you wanted, but I figured it might help others also.

FDA's warning is based on a just-completed epidemiological study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the states and local health agencies, which links 288 cases of foodborne illness in 39 states to consumption of varying types of Peter Pan peanut butter. This report was provided to FDA on February 13 and the FDA released the recall on February 14th, 2007.

ConAgra has initiated a voluntary recall of the potentially contaminated Peter Pan and Great Value brand peanut butter products. A press release describing the recall can be found at www.conagrafoods.com. Consumers with questions or concerns about the recall can call ConAgra’s 24-hour toll-free hotline at 866-344-6970.

For a full refund consumers should mail the Peter Pan Peanut Butter or Great Value Peanut Butter product lid along with their name and mailing address to ConAgra Foods, P.O. Box 3768, Omaha, NE 68103. Questions or concerns about the recall are being received by ConAgra's 24-hour toll-free hotline at 866-344-6970.

The voluntary recall includes all containers, varieties and types of Peter Pan peanut butter products purchased from May 2006 through present. All Peter Pan products are manufactured in a single ConAgra facility located in Sylvester, Georgia that is identified as 2111; the number 2111 is included in the lot codes for all products manufactured at this particular facility. Great Value products are manufactured at several different facilities including the ConAgra facility in Sylvester, Georgia. Only Great Value products with lot numbers beginning with 2111, indicating they were manufactured at ConAgra's Sylvester, Georgia facility, are included in the current peanut butter recall. The lot numbers beginning with 2111 should be on the lids of product.

It does not depend on when the recall started, they recalled anything with the 2111 number on the top. It was all processed at the same time. Someone missed on getting it off the shelves.
