So I was reading that heathen inaccurate wikipedia on the virgin Mary: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgin_Mary#Immaculate_Conception_of_Mary

does anybody else think that the people around her were maybe a bit gullible? I mean COME ON!

Additionally, this might offend but how the hell did they know it was truly immaculate? We're talking about people who thought the sun revolved around the earth. Were there a lot of gynecologists around in biblical times? Is there a verse describing it?

ps. please don't delete my account for this, I am truly curious.

upon further reading, it seems I have confused some things. By the answers, so do some of you. I think it unsporting to delete the question, so I'll let it ride. But damn, that's a fuzzy story.

The "immaculate conception" theory and the "virgin birth" are actually two different concepts. It seems that you might be confusing the two.

The latter refers to the conception of Jesus, so that he was prevented from inheriting his ancestor's curse (both the curse of Adam (original sin), as well as the curse upon the last descendant of David to sit upon the throne of Judah), and to insure that Jesus was born of God. Almost all Christian denominations believe this, since it was written into the Gospel Of Matthew. It is a very old Christian belief.

The former is an official doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church that states, basically, that Mary herself was sinless, thus making her almost equal to Jesus. Even many Catholics have trouble accepting this doctrine, from what I heard. I do not believe that it was an official belief of any church anywhere until about 500 years ago (Council of Trent, 1545).

As stated by someone above, the immaculate conception actually refers to Mary's birth, not Jesus'.

However, you are actually talking about the virgin birth. I'm going to be lazy and not look this up, but I was told (by a translator who happens to be a devout Catholic) that this was a translation error. I've seen this stated in books as well, although as I'm still being lazy I can't comment on their accuracy.

Some Catholics might be offended, but none taken here.

In one of her "appearances" to humans (Lourdes, I think.), Mary proclaimed herself to be the Immaculate Conception.

However, in Luke 1, during her own prayer (The Magnificate) Mary proclaims her Lord and her Savior. Her own words declare her to be a sinner in need of her Lord and her Savior.

("Blessed" from the Greek means joyous, happy.)

You confuse the virgin birth of Christ, with the sinless conception of Mary herself, in her own mother's womb.

Better go back and read that Wicki article again.

jesus was a nephilim. it wasnt the holy spirit that impregnated her, it was the angel that appeared to her.

in order to save her sons life (from the pharisees who would have killed jesus had they found out about this) she concocted this lie.

jesus was a man of renown, a heroe of old... same biblical description as a nephilim. Gesnesis 6

They had midwives, and they often were asked to prove the virginity of girls before they weremarried. And they could tell if a girl's hymen was torn or not.
