I fast every first sunday of the month- a 24 hour famine I guess you can call it.
The very best thing that helps me, especially when the 24 hours is elongated when I have to wait for people to eat dinner, is remembering what I am fasting for. I pray for strength, and for the hunger to be put aside so that I can focus on what I am fasting for.
We do fasting mostly because of fast offerings- donating to the church the cost of meals that we fasted/skipped. The church (the money is always for the people in the church, and for building up the church, never to pay a salary for those running the church) in return uses the money to help others that have little meals, starving on a day to day basis, etc.
It is also spiritually strengthening if you do remember what you are fasting for. It is a proof that you have control over that which is carnal in nature- hunger. If you can conquer that, there are many other things that your carnal nature desires that may not be best for your soul.
I will be praying for you that you may be able to perservere through this, but I promise you, it is worth it!

Do not think about food--the whole point of a fast at a church means that it is time to commit to God. Look at it from a spiritual point of view and not a mortal or selfish view. 30 hours is not that bad. Jesus fasted 40 days and nights. 30 hours is not going to end your life!
Lol, plus you can keep busy doing other things like taking naps or writing in a journal. Whatever else you enjoy doing that does not involve food. I love food! I eat and I become happy but at the same token my faith comes first. I have went without food before and it only seemed hard at first because I thought selfishly of myself and not of the betterment of my spiritual standing.

Distract yourself. Do things so you won't think about food. Since it is for church, praying and meditating sound like good ideas. Get out and do things( nothing too strenuous though) and stay around people in case you should faint from low blood sugar. Have some soothing herbal tea. Also if you are wavering in your conviction to eat or not eat, you will feel worse. If you have the conviction and know you are not going to eat, your body will fall in line with your mind and not bug you so much.

Talk to ppl if you're allowed, pray, bring a book or play a bored game...I don't know what you're allowed to do in the church. but those are some ideas that might help..

Listen to bouncy, upbeat music. Drink water--it's clinically proven to fill you up when you are hungry! Watch a comedy movie. Go for a walk.

Yikes, doesn't sound like fun! Your best bet would be to drink plenty of water and keep yourself busy... if you aren't doing something, your mind will remind you how hungry you are. Good luck!

keep yourself busy. exercise, read a book, visit people etc. Drink lots of water (if you're allowed) as this can reduce feelings of hunger.
