I have chronic alcoholic calcification of the pancreas. I had stents put in and the pain has stopped, but I've been told to stay away from alcohol for ever.
I can't do this, no matter how hard I try.
What happens if the pancreas are removed?
Please help!

you seriously need to stop drinking or if you cant except you will always have pancreatitis, you cant live without a pancreas you will die if you have it removed so that is not an option at all

Well, if you can't stay away from the alcohol, you will slowly kill yourself. I suspect, as others have mentioned, that your liver is in pretty bad shape too. So the veins along your esophagus will distend just like varicose veins, and once one of them lets loose, you will bleed to death.
Get yourself to AA and get the help you need. Your continued drinking will kill you. People have told you what you need to do to help yourself. Others cannot do this for you.

I work with biliary surgeons who do that type of surgery, and I do not know of one that would do such a huge surgery, with significant chance of death, in a patient who would not stop drinking. Our health care dollars are too scarce to spend on a patient who is committing slow suicide. Get into alcohol rehab, then maybe you won't need such a drastic measure. Good Luck!

You can't live without a pancreas. Please check into rehab as soon as possible. You will have to give up alcohol if you want to live. Your liver is probably going too. Don't keep doing this to yourself, or your family. Please!
