Play guitars and eat a good meal. Take a real good shower because you may be up close and personal with your artist for a while. After wards, follows your care instructions, play more guitars, eat more food, and drink a nice cold beer. Good luck.
Well, that's my method, you can modify it (a little) if you need too. :)

I was a bit nervous before my first tattoo as well. I know what I did... I "played hookie". I'd already taken the day off, so I went on a leisurely motorcycle ride, had an early & long lunch with a friend, and hung out in a coffee shop beforehand reading. No drugs of any kind, not even caffeine.
I was still a little tense, but substantially more relaxed. It's like any commitment - buying a car/house, marrying, having a kid. A little nervousness is normal, however silly you might feel afterwards. I see it as adding to the experience in the long run.
And hey, post afterwards. Tell us how it went & give us a picture if possible.

Honestly I get super nervous still, before every tattoo.
You know you're walking into something that hurts, and the area feels different for each tattoo, so I'm always hoping the next one I'm getting, will hurt less (it usually doesn't because I'm doing all the painful tattoos first to get them out of the way).
I really don't know anything that's going to calm you down if you're nervous. Maybe you can preoccupy yourself by staying busy.
I think once you're in that chair and the machine hits your skin a few times, you'll finally be able to relax.
The pain is definitely managable, just irritating in some spots.
Getting the tattoo itself, is going to stop you from being nervous. You're going to realize it isn't even as bad as you thought it'd be and you'll be able to somewhat relax.
Good luck with your first tattoo!!!

My first tat was on the base of my back and i was on holiday, while i was waiting the tattoo artist told me not to drink any alcohol as this will thin the blood and you could bleed quite alot. I do have to admit that was a real eye opener and was quite painful in places. People ive spoken to say that the outlining of the design is the most painful but you get used to the sensation after a few minutes. Hope i havent made you more nervous - not intended. I have had another one done a few months back on the base of my neck and it wasnt as bad as i had anticipated. Its a short term pain and the outcome is well worth it - you will be fine! Good luck and dont worry!

You need to just breathe and relax, watch your fave movie or read a magazine anything that gets your mind off your tat for a short time. I have 5 tats and everytime i have gone into the shop i get nervous until i take a seat in the chair and then instantly a weird sense of calm takes over and before you know the artist is bandaging you up.
Good Luck.

I went through this before my tattoo...Just remember what you are getting and why you are getting it. Eat a good meal beforehand so that your blood sugar level remains good (that's often why you hear of people fainting)....it also helped me to concentrate on my breathing and concentrate on one object while getting the tattoo...whether it was a dot on the floor or a dot on the ceiling.
Another thing that helped me ALOT was this....I kind of studied up on the procedure, statistics, precautions, equipment...all that I could learn about tattooing...that way, I knew exactly what I was doing and what to expect...so nothing was a suprise when the day actually came. In looking up this information, it made me feel more confident about my decision to get a tattoo.
That night, I took my friend along with me to "hold my hand" and we went out to dinner and then off to the tattoo studio. I was so nervous about it...esp when I heard the tattoo machine turn on...I kept asking my friend "has he started yet?...has he started yet?" She looked and laughed and said that he started a little while ago.
Best of luck to you!

The pain you may feel is only SHORT term.I would just tell myself this and focus on this phrase while getting the tattoo.
I have 8 tattoos mostly on my lower arms and that is how I got through it. The pain is not that bad or I would NOT have went back 8 times.
I hope you can relax a little now.

get excited! Be happy about your new ink! Do not worry about the pain, etc. It is all worth it in the end! If you are too nervous, maybe you should put it off to make sure that you really want this!
Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

do not listen to ozgard at all. dont drink any alcohol or take any medicine. just relax. tats dont hurt, its just a gazillion needle pricks.
back to why not using alcohol or pain meds. cuz they both thin the blood making you lose way more when getting tat'd. that's the reason you sign waiver forms before they tat artist will even touch ya :)
