After a week of headaches the doctor told me i have sinusitis. He has given me a steroid nasal spray, anti-biotics and pain killers. My face ie; behind my eyes, across my cheekbones and my forehead are really painfull to the touch. But my headache is the wost - i have a dull aching pain all over my head, like there is not enough room in my skull for my brain! Apart from pills anyone got any suggestions to ease the pain?

Get a washcloth wet, wring out some of the water and nuke for a couple minutes. Remove and let cool enough to lay it across your face, forehead, cheeks. Lay back and rest, the moist heat will help break up the infection in your sinus cavity and it will begin to drain. Another thing to try is this, you have a spot on the back of your head where it connects on your neck, it's kind of like a dip. Anyway, locate the spot and then massage there, if you get the right spot, you will instantly feel relief happening. Good luck.

It could be sinus, try this, it will not hurt you if it isn't a sinus infection and might very well help. The only things that really helped me was when my Dr. told me about a sinus wash that will kill bacteria. you need distilled water sea salt liquid chlorophyll and colloidal silver from the health food store. in a glass mix 1/4 cup water with a pinch of salt and heat to body temperature. add 5 drops each silver and chlorophyll and mix. using a large dropper (like one used for infant medication) drop 2 full droppersfull into one side of the nose while laying down. Turn the head and let it drain out the other nostril. Be sure to have paper towels handy. The silver kills the bacteria and there are several hundred kind that can live in the sinus cavities and anti biotics don't get rid of them all. Do this twice a day for a week, mixing up the mixture fresh each time. Then do it once a week for maintenance. There is nothing in this that will hurt you, and it cured me. I do not have to take claritin, or antibiotics anymore. best wishes

I'm prone to sinusitis as well. I've found that ibuproferin (Advil) worked best for the headache, and laying down with a warm cloth over my eyes eased some of the swelling. I've avoided the steroid nasal spray and stuck w/saline spray instead. The steroid stuff makes me nervous.

For me the super-dry air in the winter seems to trigger them, so the suggestion of steam above may be a good one to try as well.

I agree that your headache sounds sinus related and also agree in part with all of the suggestions to hydrate and moisturize your nasal passages to increase their ability to stay open and drain rather than remain closed and build up pressure.
However, the best way to do this is to irrigate your sinuses with a salt solution: 1 Quart of filtered water, 1 tablespoon of pickling salt, and 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Put some of the mixture in a cup so you keep the main bottle clean and then use it with a bulb suction (like for a baby) to gently irrigate your sinuses through each nostril. The concentrated salt solution will liquefy your nasal secretions and draw fluid out of the swollen tissues lining your sinuses. After using it 1 or 2 times a day for a few days you'll have gradual improvement in your congestion and your headache should improve along with this.

yes continue to use the nasal spray and the anti-biotics, but what you really need is some muscle relaxers so it can ease the pain I had this same problem 2 months ago; my doctor said my sinus pressure is making the muscles in my head very tight and he prescribed me a 10mg of flexeril and I was fine in as little as 2 weeks. Hope you feel better!!

I get sinus headaches all the time, I got tylenol 3 from my doctor to help with the pain.. i have to go for surgery for a deviated septum that is supposed to help.. you should ask to see a specialist if it happens alot. it took 2 years for my doctor to finally wise up and refer me to a specialist and if she done so sooner, i could have had the surgery by now instead of being put on a years waiting list to have it done. concetrate on taking sinus pills or a strong pain killer, also if you are able to, rest in a dark room, no tv.. it's kind of like a migraine! take care, hope it gets better!

I have had a headache for over a week now on and off - I really suffer with headaches and each time I get convinced I have a brain tumour - it's awful. I sometimes find that a shoulder and neck massage can help - do you have a kind soul who would do that for you. I have a boyfriend but he isn't always obliging!

I had something similar to that. I thought it was my sinuses and sinus pressure. After going to the doctor about 10 times, it turned out that my optometrist found out that it was migrains. If you wear contact lenses, try your glasses for a few days to see if that helps (or vice-versa). Apparently, if the glasses or contacts are old, it could be putting too much stress on your eyes and give you stress migrains. If you don't wear glasses or contacts, I don't know what it could be.

I have alot of sinus problems. I know exactly how you feel. One way I have found to get relief is steam and humidity. Take long hot steamy showers, and you can also wet a wash cloth and lay it over your forehead. I like to unfold the cloth and put it slightly over my nose, that way I can breath in the moisture. It really helps. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon.
