When the second cockatiel died, my daughter bought another cockatiel to keep the budgie company! So I hope my daughter is responsible enough to take care of the cockatiel when I die!

You could get another cockatiel, but unless you want to play to have them sexed you run the risk of having babys. I have a sun conure and a cockatiel, and they get along wonderfully. They preen eachother and play with eachother all the time.
