I got my parakeet 3 days ago today. All it does is sit on its perch all day long. Doesn't move unless u stick your hand in, then it just flips out. It hasn't ate since I got it or drank. I checked food over and over for hulls. Nothing, it hasn't touched anything? Could it be that its lonely and needs another bird? I even put a mirror in and it still doesn't do anything. Its one eye closes a and stays stays shut for like a second before opening it. I called the pet store, they said it sounds like a respitory infection. I dont know. Im frustrated. Thinking of taking it back. Any information would help. It doesnt make a sound either.

It could be a number of things.

A - The bird could be sick, and if it is you should either take it back or find an aviarian vet.
B - It could be scared. When I bought my very first parakeet, it didn't do anything, either because it was scared and away from its normal environment.
C - It really needs a mate. Parakeets are very VERY social birds. They need other parakeets around them to survive. I wouldn't be surprised if it's not eating or drinking anything because it's lonely. Try getting it a mate to see if it helps, or take it back - but it's up to you. :)

If you have millet, then take the stick close to his mouth. He will probably start eating this (parakeets love millet!). Let him eat for a while, then wait. After some time (same day), put some of the seeds of his food into your hand and put it close to him. He might start eating. After, he will probably start to learn where the food and water is, so just sit back and watch! This happened to me when I got my parakeet, too; it wouldn't eat or drink. As soon as I gave it some millet, it was as if he started up. Then grow a relationship.
About the one eye closed and one eye open for a few seconds, my parakeet does this, I think it is normal.
Either way, take it to an avian vet just for a checkup, just like you would go to the doctor for a checkup.
Hope this helps!

If your bird is very young, it might not be fully weaned yet, but the pet store should know this. You would have to take it back or learn how to feed it with a dropper.
If it is sick, you need to treat it immediately or take it back. When a bird acts sick, it is very sick. They hide their minor ailments so you would never know.
They should give you a healthy bird; the bird didn't get sick at your house, it was already sick.
