Soreness really depends on the type of work your getting and the orthodontist. I had minimal work but my orthodontist was painful. I would hurt for days. My brother had major work done but his orthodontist was virtually painless. His soreness only lasted a few hours.

Braces are not the most enjoyable thing in the world, and YES, they hurt...sometimes alot. Don't let anybody sugar coat it. Keep ice around. Make SURE you take care of them, and the reward when it is all over far outweigh any pain that is endured. If you ever have any wires or anything break, get to your ortho RIGHT AWAY!!! Don't wait til' your next appt. Make sure to floss and brush after every meal. You will hear this all again, I'm sure, but listen to it, or you might have more problems in the end.

For a week or so after I got my braces, it hurt to eat even a banana. After that, it got better, except sometimes after the orthodontist tightens the braces, it is sore for a couple of days.

I had braces, honestly the spacers they put in between your teeth before you get braces are sore. Take some pain pills you'll be fine.

At first yes...it will feel awkward...try not to eat solid food for the first couple days instead eat soup or pudding. After a couple of days you should not experience any soreness...that would be odd. I had braces for three years so I would know! lol...nothing to be overly fearful of though~!

i had braces for 3 years. they dont hurt super bad, but it can be very painful. it really hurts when the wire pops out of the bracet. it like cuts the inside of your mouth and leaves painful canker sores. but it is great in the end. oh and when you get your braces off please do me a favor. wear your retainer. you are not gonna like wearing it but do it any way. i didnt wear mine and i wish i did. i might have to go get braces again.

Braces are painful for a few days when you first get them. Every time after that when you go get them adjusted they hurt for a few days. Other than that, they aren't so bad. Its not killer pain, just a little discomfort. Good luck with them!

My mouth felt awful for about a month.
I found that rubbing clove oil on a q-tip over the inside of my lips helped ease the pain a bit.
Clove oil has numbing qualities in it, and it can be gotten from your pharmacist.
Good luck.

yes, they will be sour when you get them on an tightened. try not to eat solid foods for a few days, but instead eat food like mashed potatoes and gravey, soup, or pudding. oh, and try to take a pain relever right after or right before you appointments. even if they do get sour, you will not be able to feel it. and you'll be able to pick out 1 or more colors at each appointment.
