Do they not realize that some people are born with psychic abilities? How ignorant to claim that psychic abilities are evil! what if its a gift from God, and they are calling it evil out of ignorance and prejudice because they dont have the gift themselves?

Some, not all, Christians are put off by psychics. And there are non-Christians who don't believe in the psychic realm as well. It's okay, doesn't much matter in the long run. God, the creator, however you name the divine, or not, knows what is in every ones heart. And I don't feel He, She, It, or Nothing, likes any of this finger pointing and judgement. Maybe it will be another 1,000 years before everyone is accepting of others.
The bible is an artifact. Don't think the psychics today can be compared to scripture quotes. Sure, there's some good stuff in The Book. But it has really been mangled over the centuries. Word for word it isn't dependable. Wish it were. I think the real truth is finding The Big Guy through your heart, actions, and love for one another.
Many believe that Jesus was an exceptional psychic. I can see that. And I agree with one of the posts on intuition. It's just human nature. Some are more aware of it than others. Some learn to develop it. And others are just born with a high degree of abilities.
Maybe there are psychics out there who abuse their abilities. Maybe there are religious folks out there abusing their stations. We are learning from our mistakes.
No psychics don't give out lottery numbers or read every ones mind or always know your name. That's not what it means to be a psychic. What's to prove? How do you prove God's existence? Why won't he give out the lottery numbers?!
Maybe when we cross over we are faced with a mirror and all we can utter is "duh".

A Christian will take his or her doctrine and theology from the Bible. The Bible never states that psychic abilities are of God. It also does not state that we should strive for or ask for a gift as such.
The only thing close to this would be the spiritual gift of the "word of knowledge." However, this gift is always used to bring people closer to God through repentance and trust in Him - not for general visions of the future.
Another factor is that the Bible tells people to avoid mediums and spiritists as they are communicating with demons and not the people they believe they are calling up from the great beyond. A demon will try its best to deceive the medium (and will typically succeed) into believing that it is the person he or she is looking for.
Ultimately, why do Christians do what they do? If the person is a true Christian, it will be because they believe and follow the Bible - not society.

I believe people are gifted at birth whether they are saved or not. It can be a gift of faith, discernment "word of knowledge" (things revealed to you that will happen in the future, or are happening right now) and so on. Ultimately yes all gifts that help and bless mankind came from God in the first place. You can surrender that gift to God and he will use it further for his glory, or you can take it and go over to the dark side, or it can just lay dormant. Some people have giftings they do not yet realize God has given them to be used for his glory. However, if you begin to give yourself or something else that is evil the glory for these gifts or sell it for money then it can begin to be demonic in nature. I'm sorry if you don't believe that but I do. To God be the glory and praise for the wonderful gifts he gives to his children. PS According to the bible it's not called being "psychic" if it's from God. It would be Word of Knowledge, Word of Wisdom, Discernment, Healing, Faith, etc are the gifts of the spirit. And Prophecy.

What a great question! I think you are right- they don't understand. Most christians are very judgemental and I'm sorry to say, emotionally weak in some respects. There are many different gifts that come from God, and no one can pick and choose which are good and which are bad. It's all about how one chooses to use their gifts. Take a look at all those Ministers who have been caught with prostitutes and drugs. It's all about their intentions isn't it?

It's the telephone game. A preacher does a sermon about people placing their faith in psychics and astrologers rather than in God. Then someone hears this and thinks that psychic abilities and astrology is straight from Satan.
God gives different people different abilities, and other abilities are developed by the people who get them. Since people who can foretell the future and some who use astronomy to gain insight into the world are not spoken ill of in the Bible, clearly it is not the abilities that are evil. It is how one uses them, who one gives the credit to, and the source of the abilities that makes the difference.

Spirituality is born from a personal occurrence with a divine, psychic or mystical experience of one form or another which inevitably connects a person to All that Is/God/Goddess/Allah/Great Spirit /whatever you want to call it.
Religion is second hand opinion of someone else’s divine experience. I think you will find that religions, and especially fanatical religions, tend to separate and divide people, while spirituality brings people together.

Psychic ability/practice is considered an act of divination. And God looks down on it, based on His Word.
to quote scripture:

Meanwhile, some people actually get this ability confused with "prophecy" which literally means to "forth tell" (not foretell) --- and yes, there is a distinct difference.

What Christians do that? I am a Christian...I HAVE psychic gifts (and others) from God. I believe nearly everyone does though many do not realize it or take time to develop it. Or maybe they think its evil and ignore it, lol...but hon...that is not all Christians by a long shot. Most ministers and other Christian professionals I know (of which I am one) would tell you that they have psychic gifts. This is the experiential and mystic nature of belief. <>

There is a place in the Bible that says to turn away from all magic, sorcery, etc, yet God chose His prophets, I guess it all depends on what they are using this for, if it is to find a lost child, etc, God may be sending that to them, but if it is out for things that are not important, look out the devil may be involved, many don't know but we can become open receptacles to the devil if we are open, and he will use anything to get people to sway, to care more about this world than to follow Gods true calling, so watch out, you don't know where your information is coming from.

Because they are not from God. If you have "psychic abilities", it means you have a familiar spirit, which is a fallen angel ( a demon.) Satan loves to deceive people through this method. He uses mediums like John Edwards to lead normally God-fearing people astray. These are usually Christians and theists who don't read their Bible.
